four star for a five star writer

Almost gave up on this book as it was more like a Jane Austen than a Susan Hill but continued as I love this author. It was a clever and probably accurate observation about family life between sisters and mothers and spinster daughters. Bullying, dull details of everyday life - and death, how people make each other unhappy and happy. please write another Simon Serralier novel Susan.

Nor my favourite

Surprisingly I found a Susan Hill book that wasn't for me, but I listened to it all with some amount of interest.
