A raunchy retelling of the old folk tale – 1001 Arabian Nights. I loved the original story and studied it story years ago for drama so was interested to see what would be made of this one.
THE GOOD STUFF
I wasn’t sure what I’d think of this story when I began listening to it. But I was happy to find that the stories had been redone by Meols perfectly. It wasn’t the exact same story, Melos had mixed them up by tweaking one or two and then completely making others her own. However, she kept the initial story of Scheherazade and the Sultan very similar, which I think was a very good touch.
The choice of Sierra Kline as the narrator was perfect. She has a lovely sultry voice that really works with the stories.
NOT MY CUP OF TEA
Some points I did find a little hard because bits of the story weren’t very paced, so after one raunchy scene, there was another a few minutes after.
I lost count of the times in each story that the word ‘wanton’ was mentioned too. It became a mental game.
