About this listen

Eric Yang is 32, a combat veteran of the Saudi War, and a student at Denver University (DU). His goal was to reintegrate back into society. His service freed him from the mistakes of his past. His dedication pushed him to achieve more from life even with his disabilities. While not all scars from war are visible, Eric was given a cybernetic arm that even scientists in 2032 considered futuristic.

An isolated semester at DU is disrupted by his doctor's dire warning. The asteroid barreling toward Earth is an alien spacecraft with hostile intent. Eric scrambles to plan, consolidate, and form his team while the rest of an oblivious society is prevented from accessing vital information.

Fantastic!

Ok, this is a first for me. I was given this book so I could review it. I was hesitant about it as I'm not into cyberpunk. But I gave it a go. Boy was I surprised! The author does a great job of building a world and creating some of the best characters I've read about.

What makes it is that it is told in modern terms. The story is built on possibilities. You could believe the first part of the story to have been a true story. The author gently leads you to follow as they build the world for the story.

The "What if" are believable as TV has already presented these possibilities. The author doesn't get out of hand and go wild the story. The author does a fantastic job of bringing the story to a satisfying ending.

The narrators have done a wonderful job bringing the characters to life and giving them a personality. It is not easy to accomplish this. I must say "Well done" to the narrators.

I would happily give this a 10+ but the best is 5*****. So thank you to the author and the narrators. Fantastic Job!

Sleep material

I have never written a review before and haven't ever felt compelled to.

This story and performance is the worst and most boring pile or rubbish I've listened to before. I gave this as much of my time I felt I could suffer through trying to find good points.

The MC is so generic and plain that it baffles me he is so 'charismatic' that he can be surrounded by people who think he's the saviour of them and mankind. The story is basic with nothing I can point out to make it even slightly different from any story told ever.

The male narrators performance is one of the worst I've listened to aswell. He is speaks almost monotone for the MCs voice and during any sort of emotional scene uses the same tone. The female narrator isn't much better. Can have more range in emotions but the acting is painful in places to listen to.

Others may find this fun and interesting but to me this actually annoyed me with how poor in quality it is.

Worse than I feared

I was hoping I could get through the first few chapters, but there was just too much going against this book. The crazy long back story doesn't make much sense if you spend more than 5 seconds thinking about it. That they go into so much detail on fleet deployments and government conspiracies vs an incoming asteroid/space ship, that it just gives you more stuff to trip your suspension of disbelief and make the whole overly-long backstory seem like a 12 year olds fever dream.

The worst failing was the rushed "slow burn" relationship that starts during a group therapy meeting which is just odd and jarring for all sorts of reasons that the author is aware of, tries to explain away, but ultimately fails at telling a story with believable characters.

DNF
