I'm loving the premise of this series, it's original as our heroes are not only mafia but shifters living under a curse.

The Dupree family was cursed by a Voodoo Priestess when their ancestor killed hundreds of her family/followers. The curse is something each of them has lived with but being told that before the end of the year, a year with two blue moons, each must find their fated mate or their whole family line will be forced to live as beasts for the rest of their existence is a new twist. But finding their mate is only part of the problem, they have to make sure that the remaining Brousseau family members, descendants of the Voodoo Priestess, don't sacrifice them to stop the mating and ensure their downfall.

This second book is, in my opinion, better than the first, don't get me wrong I loved the first book but Dax, is such an intriguing character with lots of depth. We first met Dax whilst he was serving time for a murder he did not commit. He's already spent three years in the worst high-security prison, for the most part in solitary confinement because of so many attempts on his life. When his father hires a new lawyer she is able to get him a retrial and he's released, a release secured by a huge bond.

Margot's now the is owner of a bar left to her when her father died, she's a strong woman who doesn’t take c..p from anyone. One night whilst alone in the bar, at closing time, a rough yet attractive man enters the bar, he says he's come a long way and needs a drink, but that's not all he takes.......

I found myself intrigued by Dax, he's brutal and unfeeling yet loyal to his family, he struggled to accept that the curse is real whilst trying to exact his revenge on those who framed him and perhaps find proof of his innocence that the court would accept. He also has to ensure that his family "business" continues to run smoothly. All whilst falling in love with Margot his fated mate, a mate who seems to fight him at every turn even going so far as to actually shoot him at one point!

Margo is strong, fierce, and prepared to fight, but how can she fight fate or the growing need she feels for Dax? I love how she pushed Dax to find the answers, and how she never backed down. I loved her resilience in the face of everything she was forced to accept and I loved her loyalty to Dax and her friend.

The narration of this book is by the multi-talented Thomas Locklear, his performance is superb and made this intriguing and different story come alive for me. When he growled, I got goosebumps along my skin and my dogs' ears pricked up as they looked for the wolf in the room!

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.
