About this listen

Sam Becker loves—or, okay, likes—his job. Sure, managing a bed-and-bath retailer isn't exactly glamorous, but it's good work, and he gets on well with the band of misfits who keep the store running. He could see himself being content here for the long haul. Too bad, then, that the owner is an infuriating git.

Jonathan Forest should never have hired Sam. It was a sentimental decision, and Jonathan didn't get where he is by following his heart. Determined to set things right, Jonathan orders Sam down to London for a difficult talk…only for a panicking Sam to trip, bump his head, and maybe accidentally imply he doesn't remember anything?

Faking amnesia seemed like a good idea when Sam was afraid he was getting sacked, but now he has to deal with the reality of Jonathan's guilt—as well as the unsettling fact that his surly boss might have a softer side to him. There's an unexpected freedom in getting a second shot at a first impression…but as Sam and Jonathan grow closer, can Sam really bring himself to tell the truth, or will their future be built entirely on one impulsive lie?

I will admit that I’m always pretty much guaranteed love anything by Alexis Hall but this book blew away my expectations and set the bar to a new high. It was a fantastic read, start to finish, and Will Watt’s narration of it was above and beyond brilliant, from start to finish.

A fantastic book and a stunning performance

It made me actually laugh out loud a few times.
It is a really great book, very well written and performed to perfection.

The story is a bit formulaic but original and lively in the details. It’s funny, well written and entertaining. The narration is excellent. Highly recommended if you enjoyed Boyfriend Material, and would like to listen or read something similar.

Great narrated feel good love story

This is the perfect romcom. Bonus points for the Sheffield setting, adorable cat and amazing narrator.

Jonathan & Sam

Alexis Hall is a master of the romcom genre. This book, much like the London Calling series, is hilarious, riveting, and instantly heartwarming. Jonathan and Sam are an unlikely pairing that just work - like mango and chilli.
Shoutout to the narrator and production - I binged this 10 hour audio in 1.5 days (needless to say I got absolutely nothing else done, but that’s my problem).

Good narration of a story full of characters and joy. As with so much of Alexis Hall’s works the story is simple but filled with people you fall in love with and want to know more about them. Another one to enjoy for the pleasure of a simple story.

Sweet story

Great story with brilliant narration. The banter was great, and the different character voices and accents were very well done. Sam and Jonathan were perfect. Will definitely be relistening when I need cheering up!

Good quality writing. Very funny, emotional and heart warming. An obvious ending but enjoyed reading/listening to how the ending was going to come about. Would definitely recommend. As good as Boyfriend Material and better than Husband Material by same author. Excellent narration too. I’ve listened to too many books where the narrator kills the story because of a really bad accent. I think the narrator definitely helped bring the story alive.

Funny and emotional

Really loved this latest one. I think it’s a real testament to them as a writer that they are able to craft such vivid complexities through prose and somehow resolve things in a way that doesn’t tear out your heart.

Alexis Hall makes unlikeable character endearing
