Summary
When we talk about money, there are two questions every Believer needs to answer: Does God want His children to be rich? What is the purpose of financial wealth?
Thankfully both are answered in the scriptures. In regards to the first question 2 Corinthians 8 verse 9 says, "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich."
This means that as far as God is concerned He paid the price for our poverty so that no one has to be poor. You may also ask - Does God want every Believer to become a millionaire?" My response is that if every Believer became a millionaire it will not bankrupt heaven!
We will answer the second question by travelling over to Deuteronomy 8v18 for the answer. It says, "But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today."
Part of that covenant is that through us all the nations of the earth will be blessed. Therefore the reason God gives financial wealth to the Believer, is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the Earth.
Does that mean the Believer should not have a nice house? No. What about a nice car? No. But when that Believer starts accumulating to consume on their uncontrolled appetites and therefore becomes stingy toward God; that person has missed the real purpose.
