About this listen

When the crime scene is pure coincidence and there’s no evidence, how can you prove it was murder?

Ella Bridges faces her most challenging investigation so far when the vicar dies suddenly at the May Day fete. But with evidence scarce and her personal life unravelling in ways she could never have imagined, she misses vital clues in the investigation.

Working alongside Scotland Yard, will Ella manage to unearth the clues needed to catch the killer before another life is lost? Or will personal shock cloud her mind and result in another tragedy?

A Clerical Error is set in 1930s England and is the third audiobook in the Yellow Cottage Vintage series. ‘Miss Marple meets Ghost Whisperer,’ this series is perfect for fans of golden age murder mysteries and cosy mysteries.

Gentle easy listening

Miss Marple meets Midsommer Murders. Beautifully narrated by Jilly. The stories are simple and have a good number of twists to keep you guessing

Expressions Out Of Time

Continuing after finishing 'The Curse of Arundel Hall' I readied myself for a return to the mid 1930s. The development of the characters was well done and by the time of the fête, I could almost smell the crushed grass of the green under so many pairs of feet. Thereafter the intrigue of the death and the subsequent investigation was kept to what might be reasonably expected for the period. With two exceptions. The author forgot time and included expressions which would not appear for at least two if not three decades later. I'll leave the listener to dig those out for him/herself. If nothing else this might make the listener more aware of the narration, rather than it becoming 'audible wallpaper'.

A Clerival Error

This is a great mystery with what appeared a dead end. Then She is able to turn it around and find the killer. Read brilliantly by Jilly Bond.

Lovely book to relax to.

I can often just need a gentle book to settle my mind and to get me off to sleep in the wee hours. The stories are very well thought out and set in the most English of settings and reminder of years ago. I love them, keep on writing J New.

Gorgeous easy listening

I absolutely adore all the books in this series. Although they are not my usual choice I have become very pulled in by the main characters - specifically Ellie the protagonist. The series is set in rural England in 1936-39 and tells of a gentler more relaxed pace of life while still having a complex murder investigation at the heart of them all. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cosy murders!

a lovely easy listen

perfect way to relax without too much over stimulation. Well narrated and a pleasant story, if rather unbelievable with the police interaction, a civilian woman in post war times would never be telling senior detectives how to go about their work... but it is fiction after all.

A simple plot, an easy listen

The heroine veers between sickly sweetness and sanctimonious judgement. If you want something easy to listen to on in the background then this does the job well. I don’t find the heroine to be clever and I think the way she tells policemen how to do their job cringe worthy, but without that there wpildnt be a story at all so….

Dread ful narration with stupid, over exaggerated voices

As each character is introduced the narrator uses and over exaggerated and ridiculous voice. I could not get beyond a few paragraphs.
