Summary
A further episode in the Unquiet Bones series, following the life and fortunes of Hugh de Singleton, surgeon in medieval Bampton, Oxfordshire
Alan, the beadle of the manor of Bampton, had gone out at dusk to seek those who might violate curfew. When, the following morning, he had not returned home, his young wife Matilda had sought out Master Hugh de Singleton, surgeon and bailiff of the manor. Two days later Alan’s corpse was discovered in the hedge, at the side of the track to St. Andrew’s Chapel. His throat had been torn out - his head was half severed from his body - and his face, hands, and forearms were lacerated with deep scratches.
Master Hugh, meeting Hubert the coroner at the scene, listened carefully to the coroner’s surmise that a wolf had caused the great wound. And yet, if so, why was there no blood?

loved it. simple but lovely storyline
not too complicated to follow and I love the ending
definitely worth a listen can't wait for the next one.
Steven crossley is one of my favourite narrators

Interesting, well read
I enjoy the historical aspects of this series. I wish I could see some of the book with my eyes because there are olde English terms that I can't understand so well by just hearing them. I love the Godliness of the main characters and the absence of foul language. I plan to follow the whole series.

Well-researched
I can't think why people are negative about this series of audible murder mysteries. I think each book is original and absorbing. The reader is competent and actually quite soothing if you want a book at bedtime.
The main protagonists are likeable but not overpowering. Historical detail is well-researched and of interest in moving the plot along. I have read these novels out of sequence but have found them coherent and consistently good.
Have a listen to the free ones; you'll buy the rest without hesitation.
The main character expresses opinions that are consistent with the culture and beliefs of the time. Critics of these pronouncements, have missed the point of setting the stories in that era.

Great series
I'm doing a review for the whole series as I've left it so long since I started listening to them.
I would highly recommend this series and in fact I have done so to a number of people already. Very impressed with the writing, the research that seems to have been done and the historical accuracy is excellent.
Nice characters, good pace, interesting stories. Really interesting to see the ability of surgeons then and the ways Hugh deducts things.

A Corpse at St Andrews’s
I loved listening to this medieval murder/mystery. It was interesting learning some new medieval words: leirwite - a fine for adultery, cresset - a metal holder for a fire torch, and mounted on a pole, containing oil, grease, wood or coal. Pannaging pigs. You can guess that one. But if not it is the practice of releasing pigs in a forest so that they can feed on fallen acorns, beechmast, chestnuts or other nuts.
