Summary
Adair Radcliffe is only a child when her family perishes in the War of the Roses, so her real father, the womanizing King Edward IV, takes her in, honoring his promise to her mother. Once Adair turns 16, the king marries her off without her knowledge - and to her later outrage - in a wedding by proxy. But when tragedy leaves her a widow twice over, Adair realizes that her already tenuous social position has sunk even lower. Now, all she can do is hope that the Scottish laird to whom she is sold will have mercy on her. But little does master or servant suspect that love knows no rank.
Contains mature themes.

fantastic book
it has been a while since I have reviewed a book but I just had to review this book. the story captured my interest from the beginning right to end. never boring or dull I have just got the second book in this series and I am hoping it is as good as the first one. Well worth the purchase and the narrator was excellent. what a great author.

A lot of English and Scottish history embedded within this story.
Most enjoyable. The Narrator did a great job again. A lot of history embedded within this story, which made me have to refresh my knowledge to follow some areas within the tale, but I very much enjoyed this book.

Glad i didn’t pay for it
This storyline is weak and frankly odd in places, but the worst bit is the narration - the pronunciation (hall, Warwick, Berwick..) and bad Welsh/Scottish accents really jar. For me, one to avoid...

Very rapey
Suuuuper rapey. Not fun. Listen, everyone in this girl's life dies a miserable, violent death. Her parents, husband one, her nice uncle, husband two, the villagers... and then, A THIRD OF THE WAY THROUGH THE BOOK, she gets sold off as a slave and the guy that buys her, THAT'S the guy we're supposed to root for? This book is SO grim.
