About this listen
Don’t miss Faith Martin’s fiendishly clever new novel, Murder by Candlelight, set in the 1920s and described as ‘the perfect village mystery’ by J.M. Hall
‘Fiendishly clever… A thoroughly absorbing, gripping read’. Clare Chase
Oxford, 1960. In the glorious sunshine of Oxford, on a day when everyone should be celebrating, tragedy strikes when a university student is found floating in the river, dead.
Probationary WPC Trudy Loveday finds herself paired with coroner Clement Ryder to investigate and it soon becomes clear that this case is not going to be easy.
The witnesses all refuse to give a straight answer, each new lead sends them in a new direction and tales of other missing youngsters add further mystery to the investigation.
One thing is certain though, something doesn’t seem quite right about the university’s most popular student….
A gripping, twisty cozy crime novel that you won't be able to stop thinking about. Perfect for fans of Agatha Christie, Richard Osman and M.C. Beaton.
‘Absolutely loved it… The characters were some of the best I’ve read in a long time.’ Angela Marsons, no. 1 bestselling author of the Kim Stone series

A great storyline

However, there were a couple of references, in the 1960 based story, to letters being sent by 'second class post' but the two tier 1st and 2nd class post in the UK didn't come into existence until 1968. Why are glaring errors as that not picked up before publication? It may be a small error but when a story is based in a previous decade some 60+ years ago, the facts must be correct otherwise it detracts from the authenticity of the story.
Good story but more factual research needed.

These characters are so deep and intriguing.
The narration is tantalising.
The author splashes around a fabulous story here, a few red herrings there mixed with a back story so interesting that, for that alone, you want to hear the next story.
This story is so good and is already showing a fond progression of the characters from the first book to this.
Now to sort out my credit dilemma...
Totally addicted to this series
