This book definitely leaves a great impression on the reader, from wonderful interpersonal relationships, political intrigue, romance and interesting worldbuilding. I genuinely appreciated the main character, Romeria, and how she navigates this new world - she definitely felt like an intelligent character. This my second time listening to this book, and I am currently reading the fourth and final book. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun read that has a captivating story - the writing of the books stay consistently good throughout and they are all well paced. Loved that on my second time round, things that were not clear before suddenly made stark sense. Incredibly intelligent of the author. And the narrator did a wonderful job with all the voices. Thank you.

the narrator's voice was annoying at 1st but got used to it, well worth it, especially as she did so many different accents for each character well.

The story had me from the first couple of chapters. Slow burn, interesting characters, so much complex and unique world building. Can't wait to continue the series!

90% of this story was dull and boring. No complaints for the narration, just a very lacking plot.

The narrator brought the story to life and distinguishes different characters. It did take a while for the story to become more fast paced but still enjoyable. Will certainly listen to the next in series.

The narrator feels off at first, but push through the first couple of chapters and you start to get past it. She’s excellent at differentiating characters, though I don’t love her general narrating.

As for the story, this series is one of my favorites that I reread often.

ok so this story is crazy and if I hadn't been on a long drive I probably would not have kept going because the plot is crazy. Man I'm glad I did. it's been one week and I'm already half way through the second book. The world building and characters are really great and I think looking back the reason the first book is so off the wall is because there's a colossal set up across a few characters in order for the second book to make sense. It's incredibly complicated but so worth it. Get to book 2!

Mad but brilliant

I really do avoid anything and everything that's vampire adjacent, mainly because I find it tropey and that one with the pale teenagers and werewolves was incredibly annoying - even though I read it when I was 16!!!

But this!? Now this is a story that is not only worth my time, but worth my money.

It's because of books like this and writers like this that I'm really glad to have developed a penchant for audiobooks.

It's concepts around nature, mortals, immortals, morality, logic spirals, identity loss, conflicted romance and soo much more...
I wouldn't buy this as a physical book though, because even though I am not wholeheartedly a fan of the narrator (it makes sense in the long run, how she speaks, but in the beginning her tone seems far too formal and well honed for a thief 😅), but as an audiobook?? I think it's perfect because it has a cinematic quality that cinema would probably spoil, but the narrator does a good job of weaving the stories and feelings together.

I enjoyed it book. It’s not the best fantasy I’ve read the writing and world building is fairly average but the plot kept me in engaged and I thought the romance was well done. It’s a good book if you like the enemies to lovers trope. The narrator’s tone/voice I found hard to get on with at first but I got used to it and she did a decent job at tone and voicing of characters.

It’s a lot of world building but I really enjoyed this book. It really gets going in the second half and ends at a delicious part of the story which has made me download the second and I will start it straight after pressing submit on this review
