About this listen
A mother's story behind one of the most dramatic true crime cases in recent history.
'I have lived every parent's worst nightmare. On what would have been my daughter's 29th birthday, Detective Superintendent Stephen Fulcher knocked on the door and told me my beautiful Becky was dead. Found buried in a shallow grave in a remote field, Becky had been brutally murdered.'
When Becky Godden-Edwards was killed, her mother Karen awoke to a world where the truth was never guaranteed; where taxi driver Christopher Halliwell got away with murder and the police officer who found her daughter was punished instead.
This is Karen's story. Despite unimaginable tragedy, her love for her daughter has been unbreakable: from her despair through Becky's troubled teenage years, to the agonising eight years when Becky was missing, and then the dramatic story of how a killer's confession led to a terrible discovery.
The one constant has been Karen's determination to fight for Becky, tirelessly campaigning for the truth about what happened to be heard and for Halliwell to face the consequences of his evil actions.
*The murders of Becky Godden-Edwards and Sian O'Callaghan will soon be the focus of major new ITV series A Confession starring Martin Freeman as Stephen Fulcher and Imelda Staunton as Karen Edwards*

An incredible story
Karen Edwards' forensically detailed account of her daughter's murder, life before and the campaign for justice is remarkable, heartbreaking and thought provoking.

Incredible bravery
As the author says, you really couldn’t make this up. What a tale of tragedy and yet bravery as this wonderful mother relates her experience and ordeal with the justice system. I just wish she had narrated the book herself.

True Life
Great account of the best and worst of life. Appreciate the insight. Like many I'm ex CID from a neighbouring Force and I know that Steve did a brilliant job in most areas. Going through accounts I did feel that some key areas were dealt with in ways that would have caused me to loose sleep but his application of PACE wasn't particularly one of them. Nothing is perfect and giving access to the detail is a generous act. Thank you all.

In depth account of a terrible tragedy.
The story was in depth and interesting. I'm so glad Becky was found. I've always thought it sad how Halliwell was arrested so quickly as soon as a "nice" girl was snatched, but girls who've had problems are considered less worthy by both the media and police and so often are never found.
I found the narrator's voice fairly sharp and strident and her inability to pronounce local places, grated at times (Lecklade, Avabury and Saver-nake spring to mind) Surely someone could inform narrators on pronunciation? The attempt at a Scottish accent was not good (i assume that's what it was?)
