Summary

After her father and brother disappeared, Lady Jane Lennox is managing Bellhaven Castle. Nonetheless, her aunt has invited six suitors to compete for the right to her hand - and to protect Bellhaven's towers of cool, pink-gray stone. Among the six is Nicholas Kincaid, the one-time object of Jane's affection. Two years ago, her brother banished Nicholas. A mere "sir," in want of title or land, Nicholas was not marriage material. Now, Nicholas will have the chance to compete in challenges of wit and skill, rather than heraldry. But against noble swordsmen, dancers, and charmers, can he possibly win back her heart? The six highland lairds could not ride sooner to the snowy bailey walls, as strange things keep happening to the family: a faulty carriage wheel, a loose step, high in a stone tower. Accidents, no doubt. But by Christmastide, Lady Jane will secure Bellhaven and choose a new love.

An Interesting Cast of Characters

At the start of this book I thought there were way too many people for me to keep track of, but actually it worked. I very easily settled into the story line and I was enjoying the way the plot unfolded. The addition of a little mystery and a little danger was just perfect for what is essentially a Happily Ever After romance novel. My only complaints would be the usual heroine disregarding her own safety and stupidly ignoring the obvious ways to stay safe, and the voice the narrator used for the 'villains' of the piece just had me in stitches. I could not take them seriously. The 'baddie' voice was just a little too over-the-top for me. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing how the other suitors fare, particularly Colin and the hot tempered David.
