About this listen
Evie Danvers has three beautiful, if slightly out-of-control, children; a stray cat named Dr. Moxley; and a best friend who drinks unapologetically at 9 a.m. Evie also has stage-four bone cancer and a gallows sense of humour that drives her husband, Nick, demented. Nick wants Evie to fight. Evie, on the other hand, is almost ready to die. This is not Evie’s first rodeo. She kicked her cancer twice before. But this time around, Evie knows it’s a battle she can’t win.
Instead, she focuses on avoiding her oncologist, playing wicked pranks on her mother-in-law, and getting her affairs in order, which includes hiring a nanny to take care of the kids after she’s gone. Having Julia Soanes in his house would not have been Nick’s first choice. Julia smells of memories. And sex. Something Nick hasn’t had in a while. Nick’s moral objections, however, are short-lived. The woman he loves is dying. He can honor her dying wish. Can’t he?

Warning - difficult listen when driving!!
Warning - you might find it a difficult listen when driving as you are either sobbing or laughing out loud!! I found this a book that draws you in quickly, with characters you grow to love and care about deeply. Although you know that Evie has stage 4 cancer and there are some tough elements this is still a warm, honest and life affirming read. I raced through it and then was sad when it ended - I will be seeking out more books by Lissa Del.

Brilliant. Beautiful. Gut wrenching.
Get ready for the ugly cry.
Most books ‘hook’ you from the start, but this one slowly unhinges you from the first chapter.
Evie is dying is the best way possible- by living life to the full with the ones she loves. But is also preparing, selflessly thinking of her husband and three children. Because no one knows better than she does what they need.
When Evie hires Julia as nanny, she sets in motion a plan that she hopes will help her family heal from their grief after she is gone.
If you enjoyed One Day in December- you’ll love this book. It’s raw and beautiful. A glimpse into what it means to love and truly live.

A Very Special Story
A very special story, Evie is dying of cancer and we get to share her last few weeks with her. Her indomitable spirit and wicked sense of humour make this a book so worth reading.

I couldn’t do it!
My heart is broken. At least at times it seemed like it would break, whilst listening to this book. A heart-wrenching tale of the one thing we can all be sure of, no matter how it comes our way.
Listened to this one at every opportunity and it didn’t disappoint. I cried, I laughed, I hoped...
The narration lacked lustre at times, as it was quite monotone for me. Just not my preferred style.
Nonetheless, it didn’t detract from story and the the selfless human being that is Evie, although I’m not convinced the treatment of her mother-in-law was entirely justified. However, I’m willing to forgive her on this occasion as I get back to the premise of the story. I’m not sure I’d be able to be that selfless. I’d like to think I would; not so sure I could.
A beautiful, contemplative tale. Would read or listen to more from this author.

A life made of lava
This was an incredible book!It was sad but joyful. It spoke volumes about the womans love for her family, and how she wants to have it taken care of even after she dies of cancer. I cried and laughed. Lynn Devereux was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Review
An utterly gut wrenching, laugh-out-loud, raw and honest book about a subject we all fear and dread and many have to face. I loved everything about it from the characters to the very clever way the author weaved this story of love and friendship and a zest for life to grip my heart.
The narrator's voice took some getting use to and it did help to speed it up, otherwise well narrated.

A Life Made of Lava
This is, without doubt, one of the best books I have read (or listened to) in a long time. Having lost someone recently to cancer, this was incredibly poignant without being overly melancholy. The characters were likeable without being perfect and the multiple perspectives really added to the story. Even though it is obvious where the book will end from the very beginning, I was still heartbroken when we got there. I also didn't expect the twist! I cried, both from laughter and sadness and can't recommend it more highly!
This book was given to me free of charge in exchange for a review.

A beautiful, emotional read
Whoa! What a fantastic book! I was given the audiobook version of this story by the author in return for an honest review and here it is! I absolutely loved listening to this amazing story. It evoked a rollercoaster of emotions. Very sad at times. My worst fear would be to die and leave my family and husband behind and this issue is explored so well in this book. I loved the characters. Found them well developed and believable. The narrator told the story beautifully and portrayed the Characters well. Thank u for the amazing read. Will look out for more from this author! ❤️

Beautiful and heartbreaking
What a beautiful and heartbreaking book about love in even the darkest of times. Being handed a diagnosis of incurable cancer the love this mother has for her family causes her to set up a plan for them for the future. Attempting to make her husband see that she won’t get better and accept the inevitable was so sad but the book was ultimately about how love is all that matters even in the worse of times.
