Highly recommend this book. I first read it as a teenager and it has remained one of my favourites! Over 20 years later I still love it.

I love this story

I enjoyed this story and although the ending it was obvious it didn't detract from it being very enjoyable

A lovely story

I read this many years ago and I did love it. It is absolutely heartwarming and lovely. It's one of those books you can listen to and just drift away to. It is a bit clichéd but it doesn't matter as it is so romantic and sweet.

One thing I didn't particularly like was the author's reading. She made everyone sound so 'posh' but really, reading the story, Rose wasn't like that, she was just a normal girl even if she did attend boarding school - I don't think she would have spoken so primly given that she didn't like school

I would listen to this again though.

I read this some years ago but had forgotten what a lovely story this was. Extremely sad at times, beautifully romantic and so inspiring as several young women begin to recognise their own worth and liberation in the final years of WW2.

Wonderful book

A lovely little book. Good story and great characterisation.

I read it because another reviewer said the novel was akin to Mary Wesley's "Part of the Furniture", which is one of my favourites!

Enjoyable, well-written WW2 love story

Such a lovely story and excellent narration, I didn’t want it to end. It’s a book I have already recommended to a friend.

One of my favourite books, by the author of Goodnight Mister Tom. The most lovely book, brilliant characters, wise and kind and incredibly romantic. It also has lots of eternal themes of being true to yourself, real internal true consent, motherhood and loss. If you want a romance with head and heart this is a great bet.

Romantic, beautiful, real
