Summary

Andrew Sanderson, brilliant surgeon and renowned musician, is still grieving the death of his wife Mary when his younger daughter turns up on the doorstep having left her philandering husband.

It’s not long before the house is overrun with daughters, grandchildren, sons-in-law and a boisterous stray dog called Storm. At Andrew's time of life, is this really what he needs? One thing is sure, home is a lot more interesting than it once was, and things have certainly changed from when he was a boy.

As he reminisces about his past and the love he once shared with Mary, Andrew starts to realise that there is a new road to be travelled; he just has to let go of his grief and embrace tomorrow…

can be confusing.

Any additional comments?

this is set in two time periods, Andrew's present day and his past as a child up to training to become a doctor.. the change from one time period to the other can be abrupt leaving the reader/listener trying to work out what period you are in.
it feels like the author has thrown everything into the mix, adultery, impotency, grieving, anger, illegitimate child with disability, unconventional family and near fatal accident.
there is very little humour or a strong character which are usually in her other books. a disappointment.
if this had been my first ruth Hamilton book I don't think I would have tried anymore.
