Maupassant at his best. Beautifully and wittily read. Ranks along with The Necklace which is my favourite.

Superb reading of a great story

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

The story of mistaken accusation is easily believable and the narrator gets the accents and tensions perfectly.

Perfect narration for this story

It's so short, but it's so striking that I went back and listened to it again.

It really makes me stop and ponder upon my conducts, and question the need to explain myself in the future.

Short While Striking

This is a lovely little Maupassant story that highlights how a simple act of thrift can have devastating personal consequences especially when fuelled by the attitudes and actions of the petit bourgeois and ignorant rural peasants.

Sweet and Sour

short and good story, it can be finished while doing the dishes or something else around the house

short and good

I suppose it's not a complete waste of time if you're doing something else at the same time, but it's not very interesting.

OK

Easy listening especially if you are short on time and just want a short story to listen to . There is a true moral to the tale relevant as much now as then

A true moral

The Piece of String" is a short story by de Maupassant, in which Maitre Hauchecorne is falsely accused of theft. He explains that he merely bent down to pick up a piece of string, but no one believes him. Hauchecorne picks up a piece of string. When a peasant claims to have been robbed, Hauchecorne is accused.
Cornelius Garrett is not a natural narrator and loses connection with a listener with a bull in a china shop approach to his narration task.
The story has two-dimensional characters overlaid with infinite de Maupassant overburdened descriptions, particularly of physical characteristics. it is a moral tale of personal reputation and ironically avoiding stereotypes.

Just the sort of piece students are given to study
