Summary

Summer 1381. The Great Revolt has been crushed. Brother Athelstan, meanwhile, is preparing for a pilgrimage to St Thomas Becket's shrine in Canterbury to give thanks for the well-being of his congregation after the violent rebellion. But preparations are disrupted when Athelstan is summoned to the scene of a brutal triple murder.

One of the victims was the chief clerk of the Secret Chancery of John of Gaunt. Could this be an act of revenge by the Upright Men?

At the same time Athelstan is receiving menacing messages from an assassin who calls himself Azrael, the Angel of Death. Could Athelstan's pilgrimage be leading him into a deadly trap?

The plots get more intriguing!

When I first listened to the Brother Athelstan series, I want good of the narrator, but either he has improved, or I've got used to him as he did the story perfectly. Historically accurate she plenty of red herrings!

Enjoyable

Interesting plot with well written historical and religious detail. Narrated with a very good range which conveys the story convincingly.

Great listen

Multi faceted with a more than one storyline running. Athelstan and his parishioners cleave London on a pilgrimage, great to get out of the city.
As usual the descriptions of life and the politics of the time is mesmerizing,
A great listen .

A sorry telling of a ripping yarn

I found the narrator very ponderous and therefore spoiling a lively fast moving plot. I don't like the idea of saying someones reading is poor but I was very disappointed in this production.
