Summary
One enemy has fallen. A greater one remains. It's war....
The Red Knight withstood the full might of his enemy and won the day. In a victory which will be remembered through the ages, he brought disparate factions together and turned them into allies against a more powerful foe than they had ever seen.
Now he will need his allies more than ever. Because behind one adversary hid another - one with allies of their own - whose goal was never to destroy Alba but to distract the Kingdom while achieving his true aim. And whatever it is, it's probably not in the Red Knight's interest.
With one army defeated, now the Red Knight must fight again...and for every one of his allies there is a corresponding enemy.
Spread out in different lands and on sea, it will all come down to one last gamble. And to whether or not the Red Knight has guessed their foe's true intentions. With each throw of the dice, everything could be lost.

Almost perfect high-low fantasy
I really don't know which box to put this gem in, it is too magical and epic to be grim n' gritty low fantasy, and waaay to realistic and ... well grim and personal to be high fantasy. This series is unique, one of the 'things' that makes it so special is the fight scenes, they feel really really realistic, this is how a battle scene _should_ be written in order to be interesting, exciting, horrifying and feel realistic. It is blood, seat and tears, without falling in the trap of gore for gores sake.
The protagonist gallery of personalities are interesting and engaging, and you fear for them all, because this author don't balk from 'killing your darlings', but in a way that avoid the sadistic wish fullfillment cruelty of some-author-that-don't-need-to-be-mentioned, and _this_ author actually do write books still.
So, if this author is soo good, why isn't it five stars? Well, lately in the book, there have been a bit of god-in-the-machine instances. I hate, I mean really, really hate when I get that feeling. This book started as low, grim and gritty fantasy and have now grown into full fledged high epic fantasy (but with certain elements of grim-dark-realism). Some ... elements of the story don't get handled that well. I wish the author should have left the epic out and written the story in the scope of the first two books, it would have been more to my taste.
Still, it is a fantastic story and a great saga to listen to, just not perfect, but hey ... is there any thing that is?

This book was badass, as are the rest in the series . The magic system is great and the battle detail is staggering compared to others in this genre.

Every new installment is a new victory
Yet another fantastic installment in the Traitor Son Cycle. I have just listened to all four books - it is impressive how Cameron keeps me interested. How he cleverly keeps characters warm in our interest - but introduces new characters ever so often. It keeps the perspectives fresh, and makes the whole world more real. Though it also leaves me missing characters who slide out of focus.
Dickson gives a strong performance - but I'm still attached to Wolfe from the first two books.

As incredible as ever. Wonderfully visual.
This series has shot to my top five all time favorites, and Plague of Swords cements that fact in place.
incredibly visual and real feeling. Gritty, brutal but with a whole lot of heart.
The characters are as real as ever, their interaction a stunning insight into this medieval setting.
Cannot wait for the next; for more monsters, magic and dragons!

Poor narrator
Although the narrator has a pleasant voice he fails to characterise Bad Tom as Scottish, which is the obvious intent, and somehow uses a bad Welsh accent instead. Also various regular mispronunciations and changes in pronunciation as the story plays out.

Good continuation of the Red knight story.
in the main a good continuation of the Red knights tale. there are some boring sections but all together it's a good story with pace and the usual mix of fantasy and history. it doea end in a bit if an odd place.

High fantasy at its very best!
The epic 4th part of the Red Knight saga. Miles Cameron has created a labyrinthine tale of twists and turns and sub plots of knightly derring do. The characters are lovingly crafted and reliably flawed and human. Waiting eagerly for Part 5.
