About this listen
He's never gotten over his first love. She's coming out of an abusive relationship with a life-changing secret. Will their newly formed bond be strong enough to weather the coming storm?
Indo is a headstrong romantic who never really overcame his separation from his childhood sweetheart, Mahi. When he gets involved with Jasleen, life takes an unexpected turn, one that he doesn't see coming.
Jasleen is the free-spirited daughter of a wealthy, yet domineering family. Running from an abusive boyfriend, she finds support and understanding in her relationship with Indo. As their relationship blossoms, however, an unexpected turn of events brings chaos into their lives, intertwining Indo's past with his present.
As the situation unfolds, internal and external struggles challenge the couple at every turn. Jasleen needs to stand up for herself against her family for what is right, while Indo finds himself in a situation where he can finally bring meaning to his life.
A Rhyme and a Reason is a Punjabi Californian love story full of drama, angst, cultural expectations, and humor that will grab you from the first page and won't let go until the last. Compelling and relevant to the Punjabi/Indian community and culture, this book is about questioning cultural norms, accepting loved ones even after they make mistakes, and speaking your truth.

I was taken away by this book and how Ik uses the perfect words to describe and question our culture I've known my whole life. Reading this book as an Indian woman, this book is familiar yet eye-opening in its fiction sense. It's a lens on our culture that we don't get to hear often and it's important more people do. Written as fiction it's the perfect distance to explore, question and understand our culture. I listened to the audiobook and it was lovely hearing Ik narrate. I recommend this book to all - especially to those whose Punjabi culture resonates.
