About this listen
Introducing the three unlikeliest sleuths you'll ever meet…
Every Thursday, three retired school teachers have their ‘coffee o’clock’ sessions at the Thirsk Garden Centre café.
But one fateful week, as they are catching up with a slice of cake, they bump into their ex-colleague, Topsy.
By the next Thursday, Topsy’s dead.
The last thing Liz, Thelma and Pat imagined was that they would become involved in a murder.
But they know there’s more to Topsy’s death than meets the eye – and it’s down to them to prove it…
Sit down with a cup of tea and this perfectly witty, cosy crime novel. Fans of Agatha Christie, Death in Paradise and Midsomer Murders will be hooked from the very first page.
‘Warm characters and wonderful writing… It’s steeped in Yorkshire like a mug of hot, strong tea… I loved it’ SJ Bennett, author of The Windsor Knot

A wonderfully thought provoking novel ....
.... with brilliant characters and a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The subject was covered beautifully and really brings the vulnerability of the mind to light - very much hope there's another. The writing and reading of the book was a delight. Thank you!

A spoonful of murder
A long winded story and I couldn’t tell one character from another. Not a page turner for me.

Wonderful storytelling at it’s best!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book.
The storyline took a little getting into-confused who everyone was and how it would progress initially, but then it takes pace and I really couldn’t stop listening to it!
Loved the storyline-made me think and take a sense check, loved all of the characters and the twisty-turny plot with red herrings. Just sad as a Pomfretian that the Northern Knights would STILL come to Pontefract!! Can’t wait for the second book!
Julie H read the book wonderfully! 5 stars all round!

Dodgy story
Poor writing, stereotypical women and far too many adjectives! But the narration is reasonable so if you just want ear fluff it’s fine

Disappointing narrator
This story is quite obviously set in Yorkshire so I don't understand why we have a narrator who is so obviously from Lancashire!! Perhaps this only matters if you're from Yorkshire but it's more than just the pronunciation of Masham.
I found the character voices difficult to tell apart and found myself thinking Thelma has arrived somewhere only to find Liz going into the house!
The story was ok, no great highs or lows, a good honest true to life plot with a predictable end.
I'm afraid I won't be looking for any others by this author.

Very enjoyable
I enjoyed this novel for the setting (in real places) the plot,
Characters -especially the three retired teachers. Having been a teacher it resonated with me in many ways. Liked the gentle humour and style of writing.

Enjoyable bimble
I found this had a bit of a slow start but I really enjoyed the characters and the interwoven stories. The narration was spot on and overall it was a great listen for my dog walking this week!
