________________
Kim Philby was the most notorious British defector and Soviet mole in history. Agent, double agent, traitor and enigma, he betrayed every secret of Allied operations to the Russians in the early years of the Cold War.

In the aftermath of the Second World War, Philby, Nicholas Elliott and James Jesus Angleton were rising stars in the intelligence world and shared every secret. Elliott and Angleton thought they knew Philby better than anyone – and then discovered they had not known him at all.

This is a story of loyalty, trust and treachery, of male friendships forged, and then systematically betrayed. With access to newly released MI5 files and previously unseen papers, A Spy Among Friends unlocks what was perhaps the last great secret of the Cold War.

A breathtaking espionage story and a very human take on it. A true story well told and every bit as listenable and engaging as the best historical fiction. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Ben Macintyre is enthralling. So much detail, wrapped in a narrative that carries you off on operation with our spies and then into their lives. Their behaviours, relationships, actions and decisions will keep you racing through the chapters even if you know the ending to this particular piece of spy history. There is much more to this story and it’s been cleverly told in this book. Please keep writing Mr Macintyre I’ve read all your books and would love some more.
