Summary

Some valuable books have been stolen from Master John Wyclif, the well-known scholar and Bible translator. He calls upon his friend and former pupil, Hugh de Singleton, to investigate. Hugh’s investigation leads him to Oxford where he again encounters Kate, the only woman who has tempted him to leave bachelor life behind, but Kate has another serious suitor. As Hugh’s pursuit of Kate becomes more successful, mysterious accidents begin to occur. Are these accidents tied to the missing books, or to his pursuit of Kate?

One of the stolen books turns up alongside the drowned body of a poor Oxford scholar. Another accident? Hugh certainly doesn’t think so, but it will take all of his skills to prove.

I’m liking Hugh even more!

I’ve enjoyed listening to these books in this series. Easy listening and interesting storylines. However I think this one’s the best story so far. With the best characters. I’ll be downloading the next in the series now!

Another great story ..,,

Another story in this series I thoroughly enjoyed!!!

I cannot make up my mind if it is the authors style /story or the narrator which makes it so interesting and enjoyable…,🤣

I guess it is the combination 👌

Brilliant

I have listened to five Hugh Dr singletons chronicles so far. The story is is an era I like and it is so interesting to listen to the story read.by Stephen Crossley's soft dulcet tones. I am looking forward to the rest of the series ( some read by Tim Bruce). Long may the partnership continue.

Another good story

I thoroughly enjoyed this story but the ending seemed a little rushed. But I like how the very end leads on to the next book.

Master Hughes Pottage Adventuress

Yes.. pottage, it’s variants and yet more pottage continually raises it’s head. But, joking aside, again a thoroughly enjoyable tale. Well narrated and I’m looking forward to the next instalment…. Unhallowed Ground 😎

A good well read story.

Set in medieval England, the man character is a surgeon and bailiff, who is also effectively a detective. Well researched, it's easy to listen to. A window into another world. But a world where people are very similar to those today.
