Three years ago in a large Victorian house on the Jersey Shore in the town of Harbor Haven, fledgling private investigator Paul and his client, Maxie Malone, were murdered. But why would a lost little ghost lie?

A ghost story told from the perspective of a ghost - one who’s a private investigator residing on the New Jersey shore - lends itself easily to comedy. This light and spooky mystery plays with the detective genre in a style that young adult listeners will relish. A Wild Ghost Chase is part of a series about ghost P.I. Paul Harrison and his spectral friend Maxie; the house they share with its mother and daughter owners and the ways they accommodate each other and solve mysteries together. It is the first in the series to be told from the P.I.’s perspective and James Patrick Cronin performs him as a fairly straightforward gumshoe bringing comedic elements in when he and Maxie, who’s somewhat of a troublemaker, interact with the living.

once again, I know I write the same comments on the last books but I honestly love the characters and the storys,

It was interesting hearing a story from Paul's point of view. This could of been the opportunity for full on fun, it could of been more noir. There was a fantastic episode of Castle set in the 1950s. I would of recorded this as Paul thinking of himself as a 1950s private dic with Maxi as his secretary and the other characters as 1950s versions of themselves. James was ok as the narrator but not great, if he had really hammed it up and just had fun with the book. I strongly believe that you enjoy the book as much as the narrator. If they are enjoying it you will. What would of been great if you had James playing Paul and Amanda Ronconi playing the other characters?

there wasn't a murder this time but an investigation
trying to find a dead boy's mother.
so far this is the only book performed by a man, james partrick Cronin and I thought he did a good job of doing it.

I had to listen to this on 1.5 speed as the narration was just too slow and I was in danger of giving up, but I’m glad I stuck with it because the story kept going and got funnier and better. I really enjoyed it.

This is the second story by this author I've listened to. Well written and different from my usual favourite genre . I enjoyed the story and narration and will look for more from both author and narrator

An interesting short story from the ‘haunted guest house’ series. In this story, we have Paul as our narrator, which is an interesting shift in perspective. A touching story, and well worth a listen.

Having listened to the previous books in this series I wasn't keen on the change of narrator. I didn't see the point of the story being told from Paul's point of view. The reading was monotonous and stilted. It would be an ideal voice for relaxation exercises. In fact, I nodded off several times and had to replay. I hated the way he voiced Loretta; she came across very differently from the character I was beginning to get to know. The plot was well thought out.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This series of books is clean, clear escapism from the terrible world we live in. Yes there are deaths and murders but each one gives you an enjoyable story about how the investigation gets sorted. The author is using a different name and when you find their reality it will blow your mind. How have they got enough time to do everything in their lives? Must be bi-polar like me!

Who was your favorite character and why?

The previous owner of the house. Cant say to much otherwise it gives to much away. The character is very amusing and I wish they were with me!

What about James Patrick Cronin’s performance did you like?

Voices in audible books are very important as they can make or break them. When you read a story you imagine their voices and when it is read to you you hope it does not jar. This series of books are just spot on. Thank you.

It made me happy and relaxed.

I am a fan of the E. J. Copperman series and this short story has the same light tone, uncomplicated humour and charm of the ordinary as the novels I have read so far. Told from the point of view of a different character than usual.
