Summary

Kate Madison's children are grown and ready to forge lives of their own. Her daughter Isabelle is a dedicated attorney until she falls for a client she represents in a criminal case.... And then there's Julie, who meets a man who seems too good to be true, for good reason.

Justin is a struggling writer who pushes for children with his partner before they're ready. And Willie, the youngest child, makes a choice that shocks them all....

Kate can't keep her children from playing against the odds. The hardest lesson will be that she can't protect them from the choices they make.

Story okay but predictable

Easy listening and good voice. No rocket science here. Night in with Glass of wine story line

Entertaining!

I very much enjoyed this family saga. It’s a story of love, loss and second chances, with great characters and an entertaining storyline. I highly recommend it!

*A very Apt Title*

In the blink of an eye Kate is a young woman left to raise four young children after the death of her husband. She goes out of her way to give them a decent upbringing in order to give them a good start in life. She has struggled against all the odds and has become successful running a second hand fashion business in New York. Unbeknownst to her her 4 children will end up living their lives against all the odds.

Izzie her eldest a lawyer ends up with a strikingly handsome man with a trust fund to come, he has never worked a day in his life and does not seem to take life seriously, he was a previous client who she managed to get him off a drug charge, a fact that Izzie tries to hide. Kate acknowledges his looks and appeal but finds him totally unsuitable, is she right?

Justin (one half of twins)
He is in a long term relationship with Richard and they want to have children, but not marry. A baby is soon on the way and will Kate’s reservations be realised and what does the future hold for Justin and Richard?

Julie (the other twin)
She is a designer working with her mother and is dyslexic. She meets a man who Kate feels is too perfect, is she right?

Wiliie the youngest is a ladies man then he meets someone 12 years older and is about to introduce her to the family, Kate is sceptical…

Each child goes through heartbreak or a big change and one just manages to escape with her life.

How will Kate cope with everything to come and ironically her romantic life is something she would never want for her children how will that work out?

Terrible narrator

Just couldn’t get past the flat, unexpressive American drawl.
It was like something on a terrible voice over…. On and on and on, the only plus side is that it got me to sleep almost immediately!

Slow and boring. Gave up after 1 hour.

Slow and boring story with terrible narration. Gave up after the first hour, which had been filled with descriptions.

Not for me

Sadly this author is not for me.
By ignoring the maxim “show don’t tell” the narrative descends into a collection of lists. Lists of people, their attributes, their connections, their collections.
It makes for deadly dull prose.
