Summary
Private Detective Agatha Raisin immerses herself in the glittering lifestyle of the fabulously wealthy when Sir Charles Fraith is accused of murder - and Agatha is named as his accomplice!
A high-society wedding, a glitzy masked ball and an introduction to the world of international show-jumping, where the riders are glamorous, the horses are beautiful and intrigue runs deep, leave Agatha with a list of suspects as long as a stallion's tail.
Sinister evidence then emerges that appears to seal Sir Charles' fate, and Agatha must uncover the truth before a net of skulduggery closes around him and he loses his ancestral home, his entire estate and his freedom. And if events weren't complicated enough, Agatha's ex-husband, James Lacey, is back in Carsely and back in Agatha's heart....

My favourite detective
I will miss Agatha, having read all the books in this series, it is sad that this is the final story. Co written by R W Green, this book excellently read by Penelope Keith has Agatha and friends up to their usual antics. Set against the backdrop of the horsey community it has all the trappings of glitz glamour and romance. There were odd time that the story felt like it was written by someone else but was still true Agatha.

Wonderful
I loved this. Very sad to no longer have MC Beaton, but her memory will live on, with her books and her Agatha ensuring that, so wonderfully.

And so it ends, so sad and thank you M C Beaton 💓
And with the end of M C Beaton, along with her fun and wit and wickedness, goes all those characters, like the amazingly wise and tolerant Mrs Blocksley and her dreadful husband, the vicar, and the mean Sir Charles, who is always letting himself down, and iron souled ex-husband Lacey. Where on earth did MB’s language came from, who knows , but it worked, especially with PK’s affectionate, representation of Agatha (though sometime the Brummy accents are a bit ‘ dodgy’ ) and the unique , and really contradictory , quite big hearted, Agatha Raisin, what will we do, I thought ‘Hot To Trot’ ( the last?) was almost there, not quite wicked enough though, but eight out of ten , all round, can we simply stick a ‘blue plaque’ on her memory, somehow, save her for posterity ? Surely she cannot die, as Agatha would say, “ Snakes and Bastards “ , Penelope says it so well, all will be sadly missed, unless .............?
PS I really hope RW Green tries again, small mistakes don't matter, she made a few herself, I do think he needs to,let Agatha chuck off her v high heels, and enjoy a few gin and tonics, she is after all impossibly out of control, even her tears are self pity, be wicked Mr Green and have another go ....please.. all those Carsely snobs deserve her, and Mrs B, the vicars wife, needs her back, for therapy, as do I !
