About this listen
We often hear it said that the word “retirement” is not in the Bible (except for Numbers 8.23-26, but this was a very special case). It’s true, because we don’t retire from being Christians, and Jesus doesn’t put any age limit on His command to share the Gospel and make disciples (Matthew 28.18–20). There’s nothing wrong with capping years of service in a job or with a company and looking forward to spending more time with family and friends, and doing things we always wanted to do but didn’t have time for.
But retirement as we practice it today is a social and cultural construct, not a biblical one, which means that it comes with all sorts of assumptions that work against the biblical concept of finishing well.
