About this listen

The man who invented shock rock tells the amazing and, yeah, shocking story of how he slayed his thirsty demons with a golf club. It started one day when Cooper was watching a Star Trek rerun between concerts, bored and drunk on a quart-of-whiskey-a-day habit. A friend dragged the rocker out of his room and suggested a round of golf. Cooper has been a self-confessed golf addict ever since.

Alice Cooper, Golf Monster is Cooper's tell-all memoir. In it, he talks candidly about his entire life and career, as well as his struggles with alcohol, how he fell in love with the game of golf, how he dried out at a sanitarium back in the late '70s, and how he put the last nails in his addiction's coffin by getting up daily at 7 a.m. to play 36 holes.

This is the story of Cooper's life, and also a story about golf. He rose from hacker to scratch golfer to serious Pro Am competitor and on to his status today as one of the best celebrity golfers around - all while rising through the rock 'n' roll ranks, releasing platinum albums and selling out arenas with his legendary act.

Alice Cooper, Golf Monster is an unlikely and captivating tale full of wretched excess, life-saving redemption, ghoulish eye makeup, power chords, and five irons to the center of the green.

Brilliant. Great Stories told by the man himself

as a big fan of Alice Cooper I really enjoyed hearing the book from the man himself. Great storyteller. So many stories and I bet that he could have told more. Brilliant.

Not your average golfer

This is a fascinating autobiography about someone who took the show in music to a different level. As an outlet for his giving up alcoholism he took to golf. There are plenty of interesting stories of the rock lifestyle mixed with the odd anecdote on golf.
Highly entertaining and different to your average autobiography.

Love Alive but hate golf

Alice is a natural narrator. A basic autobiography interspersed with his tips and love for golf. It's a lot better than you imagine. I'm still a fan of Alice and perhaps I appreciate golf a bit more. Loved it to death.

interesting but much name dropping

the Book was interesting and well read by the author. it has many amusing stories but was very heavy on the name dropping. prepare yourself for a prolonged callaway sales pitch, and some arrogance over his own golfing. also his attitude to music not of his generation was snobbish and ignorant.

Golf School's Out

This is an entertaining account of Alice Cooper's rock career and golf addiction, and makes for very easy listening. Narrated by the man himself, I'd reckon thirty percent of the book is about golf and seventy about his career, although if I was being harsh I'd say it's hard to tell which he boasts most about! You might pick up some golf tips, you'll definately pick up some good stories and you'll listen to the end, which is about all you want from an audiobook.

A good listen

As audiobooks get more and more popular as we're always on the move, Alice Cooper's 'The Golf Monster' is well worth 4 hours of your listening time. Read by the man himself, 'The Golf Monster' is a 12 chapter autobiography themed around how Alice's golf 'addiction' helped turn his life around (with each chapter intro explaining how to improve your golf game). Even if you're not interested in golf, Alice's life story is a fascinating listen as he overcomes adversity, becomes a superstar, battles through alcoholism and retains a bright outlook on life the whole way through. Alice is immensely likeable, interesting and never feels sorry for himself as he talks through the highs and lows of a fantastic career with an optimism and sense of humour. He's a real eccentric and he's quite inspiring as well. This book was written in 2007 but as any Alice fan will know he's still as sharp as ever these days, touring 'Paranormal' in 2017 and 2018, one of his best albums for decades. Thanks Audible for contiuing to stock more and more different books like these and not just the bestsellers you see at WHSmiths in train stations.

I wasnt too sure about this book as its about golf, but it is brilliantly narrated by the man himself, with a lot of humour, and the comparisons to his life are amazing. I would recomend this book to anyone who A) likes Alice Cooper or B) likes golf. When I started listening I could'nt stop. Fantastic ,Brilliant, All Of the Above!!!!!

Wonderfully narrated, thoroughly enjoyable listen

For those of us who remember the early Alice Cooper years, this is an honest and fascinating account of his rise to stardom and battles with alcohol, narrated by the man himself. I listened to it over two days and even rewound part of the book as I enjoyed some of the stories so much. Alice is a genuinely good guy and a brilliant narrator as well as being a devoted Christian and family man but he also has a wicked sense of humour and is a great mimic.

This is a really entertaining listen and would appeal to those who crave an insight into the rock and roll lifestyle of someone as successful as Alice and tells of his childhood, school days, how he met his bandmates and ultimately forged a solo career. I have listened to a great many Audible books and the narration of this is among the best I've heard. Keep on rocking Alice!

Alice/Vince narrates in his usual warm, funny and honest style, and I honestly did not want to hit pause at the end of my lunch breaks..!

The book is full of anicdotes, stories (rock and golf) and a quite a few insightful life lessons. Thank you Alice, and thank you Vincent.
