Editor reviews

Alice's trip down the rabbit hole, and her run-ins with the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, and the Queen of Hearts, persists as an enduring classic of literature. Lewis Carroll's novel has long been a pillar of pop culture, inspiring the 1951 Disney hit and influencing the works of figures as diverse as Salvador Dali, Jefferson Airplane, and Tim Burton. Carroll's whimsy is perfectly matched by the award-winning actress Miriam Margoyles (The Age of Innocence, Babe, Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films), who brings her trademark depth of characterization and a wonderful loopiness to make this a boisterously fun experience.

What? No Geordie?

A joy from start to finish. La Margolyes is the perfect narrator to reacquaint one with this brilliant book. She's quite the mistress of accents and I take it personally that no character was represented by a Geordie. Brilliant, highly recommend.

Brilliant - Surreal

A long time ago someone suggested to me that I should read this book as an adult. I have at last listened to it and found the book brilliant, surreal! The reading by Miriam Margolyes with all the different voices she used was excellent. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed it as a child or to anyone who feels they may have missed out on this classic of literature!

An enjoyable book

Although Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is fundamentally a children’s story, I enjoyed listening to it and will no doubt listen to it again in the future. I recommend this book for any young at heart adults who are looking for a funny lighthearted story, and escapism from the norm.

Wonderful story read wonderfully

What did you like best about this story?

Alice is a delight; the bonkers characters of her adventures are delightful and the writing is perfection.

Which character – as performed by Miriam Margolyes – was your favourite?

The Caterpillar. He's the best character anyway and Miriam Margolyes performs him perfectly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have been happy to but I enjoyed spreading it over a number of sittings.

So funny and amazingly well done

This book is a great book for children and is so funny with Alice and the white rabbit and the queen. The story is very good Lewis Carrol has done a good job, adults do not have to listen to it first, some bits are sad but who cares. I liked hearing the court proceedings but the rabbits voice is very high and the crochet game is funny and the Cheshire cat head in the middle of the crochet ground and the flamingo being used as a mallet it is so funny. And finally the recitings of the poems it is so funny.
