Summary

A searing portrait of wealthy living, and the highs - and lows - that come with it in a dazzling novel from Sunday Times best-selling author Penny Vincenzi. Perfect for any reader of Kate Morton, Elizabeth Buchan or Harriet Evans.

There's nothing like the contentment and security that money can bring. That's how it is for Lucinda, Elizabeth and Flora, living the risk-free dream in the glittering eighties. Houses, holidays, happiness - everything is there for the taking.

The financial slide comes crashing into their lives with a vengeance, and everything they've built up so carefully dissolves into a pool of hopelessness, taking self-respect and relationships with it. Now, the secrets will out and within a year, someone will be dead.

Pretty good yarn

What did you like most about An Absolute Scandal?

Nice intermingling of characters' stories, not the most predictable ending, and good plot. Plus great narrator.

What did you like best about this story?

As above.

Have you listened to any of Jilly Bond’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No.

Any additional comments?

The narrator's voice initially annoyed me, but I got used to it, and she was fabulous with different characters. But I am getting a bit sick of Penny Vincenzi ALWAYS having extramarital affairs in her plotlines!

Classic Vincenzi

An excellent story easy to follow characters. Some twist and turns that keep you engaged.

Only downside is narrater can’t really do male voices - they all sound the same. Just get a man to share narration.

Overall I would recommend this book.

Not as I imagined

Thought this would be a chic lit but turned out to be more a family saga, enjoyed the story, the contrast of five families coping with the same real life drama. Not so keen on narration, I prefer my books read not acted out.

One I return to.

I just love this. Great bunch of characters and storylines- humour, sadness and life like events. Love the 90s references. I’ve read it many times and still love it.

Family saga

This is a departure from my usual type of read.
However it was very good if you like all loose ends tied up then try this.
I enjoy this writer very much - this takes place in the 1990s and is based around a scam at Lloyds Bank in London. It's about very rich English upper crust people taking a hit financially but the characters are engaging and you do want to know what happens to them.
It doesn't tax your brain an easy read and I'm off to download some more.

Fantastic

I read some of the reviews about Jenny Bond's voice which were derogatory but she really brought all the characters to life and there are several of them!
I'm so glad l went ahead and listened to this book it's fantastic. You will love it.

The tangled lives we lead...

Intriguing storyline, full of many different characters. Some you grow fond of, others who are extremely infuriating! Storyline petered off towards the end for me. However, I enjoyed my first Penny Vincenzi 'read', and the narrator was absolutely brilliant.
