About this listen

I can’t seem to choose between the two shifters who mean the world to me… but what if I can have them both?

Trying to navigate my feelings has never been easy. Growing up, I had to keep my emotions locked down and hidden from the world or suffer the consequences. But now, well, now I’ve had a taste of freedom, and with it, my heart has been running wild.

Between trying to find witches—members of the Red Cloth—at work and sifting through my overwhelming emotions, I’m a mess. And two certain shifters seem happy to help sort me out, which is great, but it’s making all these feelings hit me at once.

How in the world can I tell River and Kulani that I… that I like them? Both of them. At the same time. This is going to end in disaster with one, two, or three hearts broken. But what if it doesn’t? What if there’s a way for all three of us to get what we want?

An Embrace To Hearten Me is a MMX (male/male/nonbinary) urban fantasy romance companion novel meant to be listened to AFTER A Purpose That Restores Us (The Magi Accounts 3). This is Jude, Kulani, and River’s story and takes place between books 3 and 4 of the main series. It’s meant to be listened to as part of the series, not by itself, although the love story is resolved in this book.

I loved finally getting to see Jude, River and Kulani get everything figured out and get their HEA. It was nice to see this fit seamlessly in with the rest of the series and still give us what I as a reader wanted to see for these three. Will continue to follow where this series goes from here. Zachary Zaba did a wonderful job with all the characters.

Zachary Zaba is back again with perfect narration for the heaviness of the story whilst bringing to life the love and happiness that this triad bring to each other, as well as the family and pride they have together. I love the voices he has given each individual MC and the emotion that is packed into each scene. It's always a joy to listen to, regardless of the how light/dark the scenes may be.
Oh my heart! Jude, Kulani and River all together are the most adorable guys who all put others happiness before their own. Individually, they can break your heart with both their history and how they feel about themselves when it comes to the possibility of more with the other two.
This was actually longer than I was expecting and so glad as this is a slow burn romance for these three men. It perfectly matches how they move in the relationship, all scared of moving forward and losing any friendship. It feels like we've been waiting for this story for as long as the series has been going and I was so excited to finally listen to it. We get to know Kulani and River better, their heartbreaking pasts revealed. The same can be said for Jude but it also feels like we know him through his bond with Mads. There are a lot of strong emotions throughout this book, and considering some of their history, it's not surprising that a good amount of that is negative but the obvious care they have for each other shines through as they support, hug and touch each other which is especially important for the shifters. There are definitely happy moments that balance out the sad, smiling whilst listening with only a couple of times that brought on tears, one of those not even to do with the triad. Whilst most of the story is focused on them, there is a little bit of development with The Red Cloth, the human witch group causing so much trouble at the moment, which will allow them to move forward in the next book. A friend also returns from Kulani's past which, whilst initially a shock and painful, has him so happy to have them back.
Fans of the series will absolutely love this! It's got the heart, bonds and emotion that we've come to know and love from Michele's books. This is a companion novel to the main Magi series and so should be read/listened to in order with those due to the plot points and relationships between everyone involved.

Fantastic! So good to get Jude's story!

This is an audiobook review.

I'm so glad to finally be able to see Jude get his HEA with Kulani and River.
These three were so absolutely adorable and clueless.
I really enjoyed the alternating P.O.V. to be able to actually see and understand everyone's perspective.
Zachary Zaba did an amazing job narrating and bringing these characters to life.

Not a stand-alone. You need to start with book one as the story is a continuation and well worth reading.

Great world-building, and the characters have good backstories. We meet Jude, River, and Kulani, who are part of Cosmo's new pride and are a mixture of cat shifters and Magi. River and Kulani are cat shifters, and Jude is a Magi. River is non-binary, but all three are male.

Cosmo is the leader of a pride group of cat shifters and the Alpha leader of one of the task force groups; he's also the leader of the Shifter community. Both the shifters and a couple of magi live in Cosmo's pride house. Within the new world, the hierarchy is Humans, Shifters, and then the Magi; this is the order of society.

This book effortlessly weaves its complex relationships between the shifters and the Magi. It's such a great read/listen.

Zachary Zaba did an amazing job of the narration. I did, however, have to speed up the narration to 1.20 on Audible, but this is usual for me.

I've been excited about Jude's story for a long time, pretty much from the first signs that he might be interested in Kulani and River, and their love story was absolutely worth the wait. I was pleasantly surprised by how far back the story started, and it was so much fun to experience the early days of their friendships growing. River, Kulani, and Jude all had reasons for being cautious of romantic relationships, and with all the chaos going on in the world around them it felt fitting for theirs to be a slow-burn romance. Each character had to work through their own fears and insecurities before being ready to open themselves up to love, and I really enjoyed the journey. Some of the other books in this series have felt very plot-driven, but Jude's book was fully centered around his romantic relationships. The Cloaked Freeway and Red Cloth storylines made for an intriguing background, but everything about this book was focused on the growing connection between Jude, River, and Kulani. It was so sweet to see how affectionate and loving they were towards each other, and the way they gravitated towards each other for strength and support spoke volumes about how strong their bonds were. For me, it felt like a no-brainer for their relationship to shift from platonic to romantic, and yet it was so dang cute to see how slow and flustered and uncertain these three were about approaching it. I adored their sweet date nights and quiet cuddle sessions, and even in the darker parts of this book I knew they would always be able to rely on each other. Every little bit of progress they made felt like a thrill, and though theirs was never going to be the steamiest of stories, I didn't feel like anything was missing to make me certain Kulani, River, and Jude were meant to be.
