About this listen

Welcome to your Irish Gaelic language course. Over the next month across 28 sessions of approximately 20 minutes each you will build a strong understanding of the Irish Gaelic language from being a complete beginner to having an ability to speak and understanding this culturally and historically important language. The course begins with frequently used words and phrases such as answers to questions and greetings and then progressively builds to more complex vocabulary and sentence structures.

Real-life conversations are included throughout in order to test your understanding in context. This course is an ideal way to build a practical understanding of the Irish Gaelic language. Not the best....

First off I agree with the other reviewer that the 'special sound effects' are awful and they take away from the learning experience. My gripe with this audiobook is the bad pronounciations, lack of explanations and the poor translations. For example, the conversations are terrible and often times the male speaker cannot be understood as it sounds like gibberish. An example for the lack of explanations is simply that this audiobook throws large amounts of grammar at you and that's it. You will get up to 20 new words in a session and thats all with no testing. Finally, an example of the bad translations, in Irish there is no word for 'Yes' or 'No' but immedialty we are taught that 'Tá' and ´'Níl´ are the Irish equivelents which is incorrect. Another example is when asked to translate 'What is that?' the speaker will say 'Cad é seo?' which is actually 'What is this?' as 'This' in Irish is 'Seo'. The actual translation should be 'Cad é sin?' where 'Sin' means 'That'. These are only some examples. Overall very poor.

Disappointing

I found the sound effects jarring and irritating. I do not believe they aid retention. I would much prefer to be able to buy a version without sound effects. The sample should be more representative of the product as a whole.
