About this listen
A BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation of an event in the life of ballerina Margot Fonteyn, written by Frances Byrne and starring Sophie Jerrold and Richard McCabe. Originally broadcast as the ‘Afternoon Play’ on 22 May 2008 and repeated on 19 November 2010.
An Unchoreographed World explores a dramatic formative event in the life of one of the truly great dancers of our time, the young Margot Fonteyn.
It's May 10th 1940, and she is trapped in Holland during the German invasion with her older lover, the composer Constant Lambert, and the fledgling Sadler's Wells Ballet. Frances Byrne's drama draws on contemporary accounts to evoke a time when, her life threatened, Fonteyn discovers who she really is, and what her destiny might cost her.
Starring Sophie Jerrold as Margot Fonteyn, Richard McCabe as Constant Lambert, Kate Littlewood as Ninette de Valois and Oliver Millingham as Robert Helpmann. Also featured in the cast are Anne-Marie Piazza, Maria Askew, Ffion Jolly, Ben Ashton and Coen de Groot.

UTTER DRIVEL
Utter drivel nothing memorable.
The lead actress is an insult, so bad not at all like the top class Ballerina she is supposed to be portraying. The lead
man is of the same calibre. The whole play is a dreadful bore instead of something that could have been of historical interest.
The producer / directors have no idea.
