About this listen
Karan Johar is synonymous with success, panache, quick wit, and outspokenness, which sometimes inadvertently creates controversy and makes headlines. KJo, as he is popularly called, has been a much-loved Bollywood film director, producer, actor, and discoverer of new talent. With his flagship Dharma Production, he has constantly challenged the norms, written and rewritten rules, and set trends.
But who is the man behind the icon we all know? Baring all for the first time in his autobiography, An Unsuitable Boy, KJo reminisces about his childhood, the influence of his Sindhi mother and Punjabi father, obsession with Bollywood, foray into films, friendships with Aditya Chopra, SRK and Kajol, his love life, the AIB roast, and much more. In his trademark frank style, he talks about the ever-changing face of Indian cinema, challenges, and learnings, as well as friendships and rivalries in the industry.
Honest, heart-warming and insightful, An Unsuitable Boy is both the story of the life of an exceptional filmmaker at the peak of his powers and of an equally extraordinary human being who shows you how to survive and succeed in life.

Bollywood fanlit
If you enjoyed his films, and enjoy Bollywood as an experience, you’ll enjoy this. Johar comes across as insecure and vulnerable, but not in a grotesque way. Rather, in an endearing fashion.

What a wonderful listen this is. I loved it
For someone who is familiar with Karan's meteoric rise to success, it really is fascinating to discover what the circumstances were that ended up with his movies being made.
The canny and sharp mind that conceived these movies, and especially their music, is applaudable.
However, it gets a bit sad when he talks about fatherhood and what happens to his production house once he isn't there to keep improving it.
Kudos. The narration is very good. Interestingly read with some endearing and charming touches and a very good sense of humour.
I think it well worth a listen. A very good use of 9 hours of listening experience.
5 stars deservedly.

The man behind the facade
Karan Johar opens up in ways we’ve never experienced. This book really humanises the man behind the glitz and glamour. He’s unashamedly pompous but even that is endearing. But I wish he narrated the audio version, that would have made it just something else.

I like his honesty
I liked the book and am happy I was able to finish a book after a long long time. I only wish he had narrated it himself

A stunning book
A true ringside view into the soul of JKo. His pragmatic honesty and tender vulnerability woven through each page showcase a mature and well grounded individual with depth and flamboyance. Truly enjoyed the book and a snap shot behind the curtains into the pretentious industry we all love and hate. The book offers the reader subtle thought provoking prompts and mild reflections of oneself as we walk through the corridors of life as are able to see ourselves through Karan’s lens and the characters from his movies. Well worth the read.

The Real Karan Johar
I didnt know what to expect when I purchased this but I am glad I did. With the current climate being as it is and seeing the IT crowd only making it in the industry because of their connections to big bollywood stars/director/producers you actually realise it wasn't as straight forward for Karan. You see a vulnerable side to Karan which is something that does not come across in his interviews. The way he speaks on his friendships his relationship with his parents it truly is a great listen.
