About this listen

Five years have passed since the orphan girl Anne Shirley came to live in the childless home of Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. She has returned to Avonlea to teach in the same village school where she herself was taught. Her earlier friends, Diana Barry, Jane Andrews, Priscilla Gray, and Gilbert Blyth, have also become teachers at neighboring village schools.

A mysterious new neighbor and his parrot named Ginger are now added to the original cast of characters. And there are the mischievious but darling Keith twins, Davy and Dora, whom Marilla has adopted.

Critic reviews

"With a brisk pace and pleasant, natural style, O'Malley's voice makes a good match for Anne's sweet-natured temperament and higher energy....O'Malley gives the many narrative passages, and Anne's parts, a lively quality, while setting an overall tone of nostalgia to match the story." ( AudioFile)

Great story but awful narration

This classic story was spoilt by robot like narration. I have listened to many audiobooks and this is the first time I have experienced this.

Love this book

Another lovely story following Ann's journey, growing in age, imagination, and emotional and academic intelligence, as well as the many familiar and new characters I've become fond of. All so interesting and flawed yet mostly adorable. It took me a while to get used to the narrator Susan O'Malley as Anne of Green Gables, which I'd listened to previously, was read by Rachel McAdam's and well I'd become used to the voices of the characters differently and more animated. These stories leave me feeling upbeat and wanting more.

Many enjoyable layers of story writing

As this is included in audible's free library, it was a good find. The narration was slightly stilted but worth persevering.

Beautiful story, monotone reader

Shame such a lovely story was told by such a ‘Siri’ like reader. A disappointment after listening to Anne of Green gables.

Easy restful read

Reading about the life of young Anne as she goes through her teenage years is a delightfully innocent tale. As a very very much older reader it reminds me of books I read in my pre ten/very early teen years. A gentle story I loved to listen to in bed, to relax me before sleep.
I shall try the next book in the sequence now.

robotic voice.

oh my...the narration was awful. she sounded like a robot and her child voices was so annoying to listen to. i felt like the story was a bit boring compared to 'Anne og green gables' but i don't know if it was the voice that made it worse.

Lovely story

Unfortunately I was spoiled by the fantastic reading of Anne of Green Gables by Rachel McAdam, so this narrator couldn’t really compare. The story though was as charming as ever and I enjoyed the company of Anne Shirley once more.

Horrid performance

I genuinely thought it was a machine reading the text. How is it possible to mispronounce Diana's name? The horror. Can you please ask Rachel McAdams to record this book? She did brilliant job with the first Anne.
