About this listen
THE NEXT GUILD HUNTER BOOK FROM NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR NALINI SINGH
Aodhan and Illium. Adi and Blue. Sparkle and Bluebell. Friends become lovers, their future a wild unknown.
Finally reunited in New York, they must now learn to navigate the monumental shift in their relationship. But for these two members of Archangel Raphael's legendary Seven, there is no time to rest. As they investigate a case for the Tower that echoes the darkness from Aodhan's past, they will be forced to confront not only the scars that mark them both, but the promise of a vast power that flickers in Illium.
The threat of ascension has haunted and troubled Aodhan's Blue for too long, the forces of change immutable and without mercy...and uncaring of Illium's fierce wish to remain part of the Seven. Change is a constant in an immortal's life, and this new horizon will bring with it both terrible heartbreak and a joy extraordinary enough to reverberate through time...

Let me firstly say I read for the BIG story with the romance aspect not being important to me.
I can't exactly say why I disliked this book but it didn't hold my interest as the others have. Ilium and Aodham, their 2nd book should have been spellbinding instead it was a trite love story. There was no 'big bad', no heart stopping moments, I was able to walk away leaving the story playing come back 10, 29, 30 minutes later and didn't have to rewind to find out some plot point I'd missed. Apologies to Justine Ayre, I sped up the narration to get through the book otherwise I'd have had to list it as DNF. Take out all the little supporting characters side stories and you're left with a formulaic Mill & Boon/Harlequin romance short novel. I found some of the side stories more interesting and if this book had been split into the relevant stories (Andi, Sarah, the murders Sparkle and Bluebell investigate etc) and sold as an anthology of short stories from the Guild Hunters world I'd have said I enjoyed it but for it to be a major book in the series I feel it lets the series down badly. With the time jump and our knowledge of what happens to supporting characters I don't see anyway back, the series is finished.
I could continue to write and vent my frustrations with this book but I'd need to include spoilers and I doubt I'll remember enough of the story to come back in a year and update this review when more people will have read it.
I recently heard a TV show described as "jumped the shark". This is the book in which the Guild Hunter series jumped the shark.
