About this listen
The Vinyl Detective plunges into the world of death metal in his sixth adventure. Expect laughs, LPs, cats and the return of fan favourites, Nevada, Tinkler, Stinky Stanmer and more.
The Vinyl Detective goes Scandi noir in his sixth adventure. Disfigured corpse. Check. Grotesque snowman. Check. Headless animals. Check. But in fact the killer is taking their cue not from Scandi noir fiction but another popular Scandinavian export—death metal.

This series deteriorates to crass repeatition
Book one had an interesting premise with likable protagonist and quirky story line. Sadly, by the time it reaches this book, it has deteriorated in terms of character development and the continual repeated dialogue is jarring.

Corpse face...
Mr detective and his merry band of coffee snobs delve into the world of scandi crime and black metal. I wonder if one rare vinyl retrieval trek won't involve nearly becoming brown bread? Attack and decay is a fine addition to the vinyl detective collection. It leans on the comedy while dealing with the dangerous adventures of collecting vinyl. Though non of the books have been as wild a ride as the first novel where I had no idea where the heck it was going. I've found the series stories to be a touch predictable, the journey to the end is always a fun one though. I find the narrator a little staccato he still brings the characters to life skillfully

basically a parody of a well known Agatha Christie novel with a death metal Scandinavian twist. best thing I have listened to this year

Great story, not so great reading.
It's the Vinyl Detective as always and the story is as good as ever - Tinkler's a bit too ... Tickler in places, but no problem with the writing. The reading is at times clumsy, with poor characterisation.

Another great episode
I love the ongoing story behind this listen. The ot is unique, and the friendships are strong. All the characters are believable, and all have a place in the plot. As always, the final plot is a big surprise. Brilliantly performed.

Poor narration let this one down
I've loved every one of the Vinyl Detective books to date, so was pleased to add this to my audible collection, but the narration on this one was so stilted and weird that it completely distracted from the story.

Think that’s it…
Mildly enjoyed the series, but always found the Tinkler character irritating. In this book he becomes unbearable. Maybe because, as others have said, the story itself isn’t strong enough to compensate. Doubt I’ll read more.

Like leaving the arm up
I do like these daft books a lot.
They are all like an audio cartoon- in some ways they remind me of the same mindset you have to have as when reading or listening to Vonnegut, as a way to visualise or to deal with the characters. Though these are comedy books and do not have that parallel social comment that Kurt does. So for me it's about the film show in the mind that is more animated than live action as it were. .. i would say this series would appeal to a more mature person.
So this follows the usual pattern of the series. This time set in Sweden with some Nordic Noir Rock
Band.. and the usual murders..brilliant fun.
