14, A chair of the lesson

  • Summary

  • Hello, Internet. Rican here. Today I want to talk about chairs—yes, chairs. We encounter so many different chairs in our daily lives. Chairs allow us to take breaks and relax. They come in various forms, like wooden chairs, sofas, office plastic chairs, and more. They sacrifice themselves just to make us comfortable. How grateful we should be for these lovely chairs. They never complain and stay in one place, waiting for you to come and ready to give your butt a good rest.

When was the last time you sat on a chair? Oh, perhaps just five minutes ago? And you probably did nothing for the chair, right? I mean, you didn’t appreciate your chair. You just took the benefits from the chair but never said thank you or showed any form of appreciation to the chair, did you? Don’t feel bad, because I didn’t appreciate my chair either. I mean, who does? It’s just a chair. If you see somebody praying to a chair, you might think they have some mental problem. But, I would never blame a chair. We all have had the experience where we kick a chair with our bare feet and then feel so hurt, painful, and ashamed.

Now, picture this: A man holding his foot, jumping and yelling at a chair, saying, “You stupid chair, why are you here and why did you make me kick you?”

That’s funny because we do see someone or ourselves in our memories, but we never see anyone praying to the chair saying something like, “I love you, chair. You always give my butt the best relaxation; you are the best!” If you see someone doing that, you would feel weird. But if you see someone blaming a chair, you might just think this person is a bit grumpy.

In conclusion, if something or someone treats us well, like your family or your partner, we might forget to appreciate their hard work or effort because we take their devotion for granted and think it’s what we deserve. If one day, your chair stood up in front of you and said, “You know what, I don’t want to let you sit on me anymore. F you, human.” You would definitely ask, “Why?” As an intelligent chair, it could just say, “Ohhhh, now I must give you a reason to refuse to let you sit on me? Ohhhhh, you want a reason? I’ll give you a reason. The reason I don’t want you to sit on me is that you are an ugly, stupid son of a...ouch, you heard me?” The chair’s opinion may be a bit personal, but yeah, that’s the chair’s response.

"We often wonder why the chair stops being kind to us, but we rarely question why it began being kind in the first place."

Let me explain what that means:

We question why the chair stopped doing something nice for us, but we usually don’t ask why the chair started doing something nice for us.

On the other hand, if the chair does something bad to us, even though we know a normal chair won’t move itself, we still remember somebody yelling at a chair. How funny, right? If we treat a chair or the world with more appreciation, our lives might be much more joyful and beautiful. It's easy—just imagine a person yelling at a chair is psycho and a person appreciating a chair is normal. This is today’s talk. I am Rican. I’ll see you next time, Internet.
