About this listen
The autobiography of the legendary sports promoter Barry Hearn.
'I am the largest sports promoter in the world. I promote 11 sports to a global audience of billions of people every day of my life'
A larger-than-life working-class hero, Romford born and bred—always ready with the perfect soundbite—Barry Hearn was famously described as 'roguish but never a rogue'.
Hearn is credited with turning snooker into one of the biggest sports in Britain. He essentially turned a sport in which competitors wear bowties into a massive globally televised event. Away from the table, his promotions empire casts its net over a dozen sports—from professional boxing to darts, fishing to 10-pin bowling—and his career spans four decades. He also previously owned Leyton Orient football club.
Packed with hilarious anecdotes from the golden age of snooker, and behind-the-scenes insight into boxing negotiations and darts bust-ups, Hearn's book is a joy to listen to from start to finish.

I operate from the same playbook, look after your staff and management and always tell the truth , it’s easier. Hopefully I’ll meet Barry someday in the future.

Beneath his exterior, which he’s happy to adopt, he’s also as my Father told me ‘The true gent of sport’, proud to acknowledge that his wife Sue would always have the final say.
It’s wonderful to listen to in the knowledge that so many boxers, darts players, snooker players, the list is endless, are not led to fame and fortune without strong moral and family values to set an example.
I thoroughly enjoyed having such insight into both ups and downs and the story behind the big fight or win or loss. There’s few holes bared including the hard times and mistakes.
It leaves the reader feeling brave enough to try, wanting to push for that dream and not give up. But also never forget the real values,
I only wish my Father could have heard it!
