About this listen
Her beginning may be our end....
Deep in the humid Mississippi bayou, a half-wild child is dragged from the murky waters. She has no memories and no family and is covered in mysterious markings. Adopted by the policeman who rescued her, Luce Boudreau follows him onto the force, determined to prove herself in the eyes of those who are still suspicious.
However, there's more of a battle ahead than Luce could possibly imagine. She may be an orphan without a past, but no one - including Luce herself - could ever be prepared for the truth of her dark, powerful destiny....

"The world building is fresh...The characters are well-drawn and easy to root for. And the romance really hits the spot." (Red Hot Books)

Great book - it has got me hooked!
Really enjoyed this book even though I wasn’t sure what to expect. It took a while to gain momentum but by the end I was thoroughly invested in the book. It has a genuinely unique feel to the world building and characters which is great as so many books out there are the same old thing. I also liked the fact that I had no idea what to expect so was completely open to being surprised. I’d definitely recommend just giving it a whirl as you can always return it if you aren’t happy with it.
As a reference if you’re wondering whether this book is for you, I’ve also enjoyed the following series that fall into the paranormal/urban fantasy type genre..
-Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter
-Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews
-Imp series by Debra Dunbar
-Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep
-The Hollows series by Kim Harrison
-The Others series by Anne Bishop
-Crossbreed series by Dannika Dark
-Boundary Magic series by Melissa F. Olson
-Kara Gillian series by Diana Rowland
-Arcana Chronicles series by Kresley Cole
-Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost
Love the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole too which has a lot of sexy time as a heads up in case you’re not a fan of that sort of stuff, but it is great and funny too and a very thorough world developed. Other ones that are good but more about relationships and sexy time than only focusing on the wider world, but still have a good story, include Pyte/Sentinel series by R.L. Mathewson, Seven series by Dannika Dark, Demonica series by Larissa Ione, New Species series by Laurann Dohner (not really a fan of Laurann’s other series though as they are too much porn and not enough story).
Other series by these authors are also enjoyable. I apologise in advance for the many hours of your life you may now lose being thoroughly absorbed in series after series. Some I’ve not listened to for years but they’ve stuck in my memory, so apologies if my taste used to be worse than it is now that I’ve listened to over 1200 books. I may remember some with rose tinted glasses, but definitely enjoyed them at the time.
Looking forward to more books from Hailey Edwards!

Wasn’t expecting to be pulled into the story so quickly. Love it so much. If you are into this sort of work it’s great to listen to and as I said IM HOOKED.

Narrator
The narrator is awfull in your mind when you read a book you put normal voices to people you don’t growl so I ditched the audiobook and read it instead
