About this listen
What does it take to ruin a perfectly good summer? Four cherry bombs. When twelve-year-old Trey and his best friend Eddy play a prank on Officer Mack, the resulting chain of events rocks the small town of Bay's End. Today, Trey Franklin is a man haunted by his past. Tormented by that one tragic, fateful summer, Trey searches for catharsis the only way he knows how - by writing. A tale of love and loss, bittersweet memories, and the depths of human evil. Welcome to Bay's End.

king to its own thing 4stars is high rating for me
I love Edward Lorn's YouTube channel book reviews so was very excited to learn he is also an author! I started with this book as I thought it was earliest :)
So, to start with the story seemed to be drawing a little too heavily on Steven king (bachman high, Eddie, a creepy town and a gang of ultimate chums learning life's lessons) but as the story progresses I got more fond of these nods to the author's love of king and the characters really started to get their own personality and the story just ... took off. This book is very much written in the style of a 90s ish horror (offensive/sexist/racist terms etc. so needs to be read in that old mindset and the patterns of speech that have now passed) so it was a blast from the past for me as an old reader. The characters develop and in the end I loved it, it made me chuckle and cry and kept me company on many a long dog walk :)
I will definitely be reading/listening to more by Mr Lorn and enjoyed this one a lot. the reason for not 5stars is because I didn't love the overly king borrowing at the start (but then grew to love the characters) and my own failing of anticipating some kind of supernatural element. It is well narrated although on a couple of occasions the intonation threw me when a word was emphasised that I think I wouldn't as a reader, but that's normal in audible. recommended for fans of old king and 90s horror writing
