Summary

For as long as Signa Farrow has been alive, the people in her life have fallen like stars....

Orphaned as a baby, 19-year-old Signa has been raised by a string of guardians, each more interested in her wealth than her wellbeing—and each has met an untimely end. Her remaining relatives are the elusive Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at Thorn Grove, an estate both glittering and gloomy.

Its patriarch mourns his late wife through wild parties, while his son grapples for control of the family's waning reputation and his daughter suffers from a mysterious illness. But when their mother's restless spirit appears claiming she was poisoned, Signa realises that the family she depends on could be in grave danger, and enlists the help of a surly stable boy to hunt down the killer.

Signa's best chance of uncovering the murderer, though, is an alliance with Death himself, a fascinating, dangerous shadow who has never been far from her side. Though he's made her life a living hell, Death shows Signa that their growing connection may be more powerful—and more irresistible—than she ever dared imagine.

From New York Times bestselling author Adalyn Grace, Belladonna brings to life a highly romantic gothic-infused world of wealth, desire and betrayal.

Enjoyable Story, Shame About Narration

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the plot was, for the most part, held together well with an interesting dynamic between the main characters.

However, I struggled to settle into the narration. The voices for the female characters, especially the lead, were pleasant and believable. I do wish the male voices were more believable, though. A narrator with more range would definitely give more feeling and emphasis to the darker moments in the book. I'd love to hear death sound as dark and tortured as his description suggests.

Still worth a listen! I'll be listening to the sequel when it comes out in August, although I'm probably hoping for different narration.

Unquestionably brilliant and unique

Gloriously narrated and unpredictable. You never quite know where you’re going and are swept up for the ride.

Predictable but still enjoyable.

Can't understand negativity about narration: it was nicely performed, and although it's a shame that was no male voiceover for male characters,I still feel that narrator done an amazing job with Death. I can still hear "little bird" echoing in my head.

The story itself was a fresh breeze in this genre, generally very enjoyable: it took me only two days to finish it off. Once the book started, I just couldn't let it go, and I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

ok,I wish that protagonists could pass their second decade (at least) before deciding on some lifetime changing declarations, considering that in most cases, male characters have hundred of decades of experience under their belt, but I guess that's the trend 😅

the narrator was absolutely great. loved her voice acting!
the story is very nice, though for a "detective" vibe story, signa is not a very good detective 🤣

I loved it!

I usually don't like stories set in times of 'polite society' nonsense, but this was a wonderful ride. Kristin is a brilliant narrator, and oh her Death voice.... you'll know what I mean when you hear it... The twists were great, the characters flawed and realistic and the spice is just right. I love the mish mash of genres in one story and I am so glad there's already a sequel coming!

Beautiful story

I enjoyed the story quite a lot. I rarely read fantasy books but this was a book club choice and I needed to know what’s all about that hype.
It’s a very slow burn romance and death is definitely a must read character. He’s hilarious in his ways and made me laugh out loud so many times with his quirky comments and thoughts. She’s still learning her way around the world though so I’m intrigued to see where this story goes next.
