Not one of my favourites

To be honest the relationship between the two protagonists is starting to get a bit on my wick by this point!

Terrible narrator!

I love Val McDermid’s books, but Saul Reichlin’s narration is so so bad! It’s really hard to listen at times.

He makes sense to narrate a scandi noir series, but not a series like this set in Northern England!

Another intricate case

Val McDermid again teases the reader with complex and intertwined murder cases against the ongoing background of Tony and Carol's relationship. A page turner narrated well by Saul Reichlin - although the mispronounced Alnwick did bring me up short!

Oh the Narration!

Hooked to this series now as I love the characters complexity but oh the narration!!
If the stories hadn’t been so good I would have given up long before now but I had thought I was getting used the narration. The accents are atrocious and seem to be getting worse! Scouse & Black Country bloody awful but then the Chinese female accent was actually offensive.

Another superb listen

There's not a lot more I can say about this book in the Tony Hill and Carol Jordan that I haven't said about the previous books I have listened to. As usual, a great storyline, well two in this case. It is well crafted with believable characters. Not the usual gruesome killings this time, much more subtle but very clever. I am now going to download book six.

still not keen on the narrator

Loving the twists and turns but hearing Sauls accents can really grate.... top tip... if you want Saul to sound Asian tell him the character is Welsh 🤣 and his East London/Cockney sounds like something out of Mary Poppins guv'na! Overall I can tune him out and hear the story so I will continue to listen as the 'will they won't they' element is still keeping me guessing and I'm enjoying finding out more about their pasts. Very cleverly woven tales of two crimes, even if it is a little far fetched in places its still a great story.
