About this listen
In service to His Majesty, one must be prepared for Hell.
To survive as a scullery maid requires hard work, discipline, and a stiff upper lip. To survive as a demon hunter is something else entirely. Elizabeth Smyth learned this after she was captured by demons and rescued by hunters. Now a hunter herself, Elizabeth's first task in this new and strange world is to aid the recently wounded Reece Foxjohn, and get him back into demon-slaying shape....
Reece Foxjohn is used to defying convention. He enraged his family by becoming a demon hunter, and prefers eviscerating demons to mixing with society. He is a man who doesn't hesitate when he knows what he wants, and what he wants is Miss Elizabeth Smyth. To watch her behead the progeny of Evil is to behold a thing of beauty—one he must claim for his at all costs.

Reece and Elizabeth's story continues on the same thread as the previous books in the series. Reese is from the upper crust of British society while Elizabeth is a former scullery maid. The chemistry between the two demon hunters is undeniable but Elizabeth understands that making the leap up the social ladder would cause problems for them outside of the Company. Luckily, she is charged with Reese's physical recovery from a demon poison related injury and they are forced to be together.
Injury or not, the demons and their master continue to attack. Turns out the past was more complicated than they realised. But there is a lot to be said for love.
I enjoyed this book. I really enjoy Aria Holland's performance. I love how AS Fenichel has written a historical novel with paranormal activity that matches all the idiosyncrasies of that time and then she challenges it all! The demonoc activity has leveled the playing field between the genders. Women have rights, they fight along side the men and the genders can be equal friend without anyone going into a strop!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
