About this listen

It's been three years since the terrorist attacks on New York City, but FDNY widow Jamie Bryan keeps waking up to the same aching pain of that one Tuesday morning, when she lost her husband, Jake.

Determined to find meaning in her grief, Jamie pours her life into volunteer work at St. Paul's, the small memorial chapel across from where the Twin Towers once stood. In the stream of broken, grieving people who make their way through the church doors, Jamie connects with two men, a firefighter forever changed by the attacks, and a Los Angeles police officer.

Unsure and feeling somehow guilty, Jamie opens herself to the possibility of loving again. But a shocking revelation sends her reeling. How can this be the plan for her life?

Now only the persistence of a tenacious caring man, questions from Jamie's curious daughter, and words from Jake's treasured journal can move Jamie Byran beyond one Tuesday morning toward life.

A gripping and wonderful story....I want more!

A wonderful story that I didn't want to end. Deep charachaters true to the story.

Average

I listened to this a few years ago and this is my second time. I was more taken with it the first time, however maybe as the years have passed I have become more discerning, as I found it a little predictable in places and a bit trite. I am a committed Christian and so to have a story that is based around faith is welcome . The first book in the series is narrated by a full cast, the narrator on this book could at times become a little wearisome. And what was the strange echo sounding voice when the character prayed internally? This was distracting.
The story itself continues Jamie's journey through widowhood and her search for some sort of closure and peace. Some of the plot lines were a bit tedious and laboured, this too detracted from the overall enjoyment.
Audiobooks require extremely carefully chosen narrators as they can make or break the book - in this instance the performance did not shine out for me.
All things considered I cannot rate it more than three stars.

Frustrating!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I do recommend the novel not this audiobook. I am sorely tempted to give it back.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Kathy Garver?

Anyone would have been better. I am used to long listens but this narrator tires me out in less than an hour! It’s a stilted reading just too relentless for the gentle tone of Karen’s novels.

odd narration style. very predictable.

nice sentiments and a good reflection of listening to God in life. struggled with the narration... pauses in the wrong place which made expressions unnatural. far too drawn out to fill a book with this storyline, frustrated by the depth of soul searching analysed which made it agonisingly slow in pace.
