Summary

In this powerful and inspiring memoir, a Pakistani immigrant shares his story of finding new freedoms and a new faith in America.

It’s easy to talk about freedom. But unless someone has lived in a world that suffocates freedom, it’s difficult to appreciate the liberty found in America. This is the true story of a Pakistani Muslim who immigrates to the United States for college and discovers five transformational freedoms along the way: the freedom to fail and start over, to love, to choose one’s faith, to be an entrepreneur, and to self-govern.

Contrasting these precious freedoms with the life he lived in Pakistan, Ali’s story reveals that God is the true source of liberty as He works in people’s lives to bring about redemption. A call to value and preserve American freedoms, Beyond the Golden Door is also an invitation for readers to consider ultimate freedom in Jesus Christ.

Inspirational and Motivational

This audiobook was full of twists and turns, revealing the truth behind immigration along with the struggles and “fruits of freedom”. It has incredible insight on the clash of Pakistan and American culture-going into detail in the religious aspects and the influences of both cultures on personality. No doubt an all rounder in the use of factuality, it’s educative style and the development from childhood. I recommend this captivating audio book to anyone interested in cultures, religion and insight into the realities of society. It is relatable in many ways such as how the environment you grow up in, has an effect on your beliefs and attitude. This is truly an inspirational book with pride in its spirituality, “presenting a full picture of the plan of the creator”. The religious aspects are written in an inspiring manner, along with the journey through it all. The main point of the Audio book were the five freedoms which the author had learnt / discovered. The first was the freedom to fail- there’s nothing worse than feeling inferior due to mistakes or plans gone wrong-which was made clear to be an important part of freedom. The freedom to seek truth and religion was dwelled upon as may people may feel like they don’t have that choice and they must follow the religion or lack of religion their family or community hold as theirs. The freedom to love comes next, allowing a choice of who you wish to spend your life with, not to please anyone but you. The freedom to build entrepreneurship and self govern. No one owns you and what you do or how you want to live your life is your choice and yours alone. Ali is very inspirational and focuses on freedom. Highly recommend to anyone out there looking for answers to life’s challenges.
