loved all 3 books, however this is the only one I wouldn't give 5 stars to. Sometimes there's just an occasional lull where you're getting slightly bored, then something happens. Also, no snow. it's set in the summer, which is a personal preference thing. The narration is perfect, as usual and I'd still recommend though.

Scandi noir at it's best

This is an excellent book that focuses on a disappearance. The pace is unhurried and the reader shares the sense of powerlessness felt by the narrator. I liked that many aspects of the story remained believable and low key, there is no grandiose plot going on here .
The atmosphere of the book is oppressing with the brooding presence of the woods, a dark -insect laden, putrid nature that bites, stings, kills and festers. What stands out the most is a group of black river dwellers with who live on the margins of society, with varied dark callings and no regards for the judgment of others. Those characters are really lingering in my mind . In all a great listening that is tempting me to try the other volumes in the serie.

Sweden noir

The style and narration are still as hypnotic, but the plausibility of the story in the small Swedish Town is just a step to far. At the start Tuva has moved to a new job in a new town and if the story had been based there around New characters it could would have been better. Instead it Tuva goes back to Garvrik after Tammy disappears and this seems to stretch the previous characters to far unnecessarily.
The book and the plot are still good and the first person real time narrative is still as smooth and seductive as the previous 2 book's. So would still recommend, but if Tuva is to have another outing then she has to move on to develop.

I loved the first two books. This story felt as if it never really got going very disappointing.

I love Tuva, how on earth does she keep getting herself into scrapes? I thought more than once, she’s being a bit crazy in her actions, although is that because I know it’s a thriller?

It did feel on completion that Will Dean had enjoyed the writing of the book at the start, more than the ending, which seemed to conclude abruptly and I’m not sure why he added Tuva being captured too, it sort of made it a bit unbelievable.

I somehow feel that she will be back in Garvik.

Narration is great, but the story itself is not as strong as the previous two books. The number of times the protagonist put themselves in needless danger was exhausting. A shame, as Midsommer offers such a lot of opportunity.

Terrifying but utterly enthralling

The pace of the novel is deliberately slow, full of detail and interestingly weird but credible characters. This series started strongly and although some
earlier characters make only a brief or no appearance in this the 3rd novel it is every bit as good as the previous ones.
Some of the other reviews are slightly negative and almost put me off and it’s true there are
Sections of the novel where nothing much seems to happen but the character and thoughts of Tuva holds it all together .

A slow burner but well worth persevering.
