Summary
Boston Homicide Detective Caitlin Reagan walks a razor's edge, propping up her life on emotional constructs designed to help her manage grueling PTSD. She keeps her mother, boyfriend, and work separated and controlled, all in service to one horrible, tragic act she committed amid the Iraq war.
But when the murder of a charity worker brings her face to face with the beautiful and charismatic philanthropist, Marcella Carson. Cait is unable to deny the attraction and finds everything she thought she knew about her world, her life, and her very identity called into question as Marcella draws Cait into her dark world.
Sliding inexorably into an unsuspected Boston subculture, where creatures of myth and nightmare struggle to survive in a world of fading magic and proliferating public surveillance, Cait must face down her inner demons, rediscover her lost past, and catch an undead serial killer.
In her first novel, Aoibh Wood explores a dark urban fantasy world through the eyes of a woman struggling to come to terms with Post Traumatic Stress, personal trust issues, and the belated realization that she is a lesbian. On the way, we meet a colorful cast of characters, from a Latino cowboy cop with a love of country music to a ruthless vampire assassin and a retired serpent goddess with a passion for science.
This book is intended for adult listeners. It contains scenes of an intimate sexual nature, as well as themes and depictions of violence, sexual assault, and death.

Overall good
Overall story was good start to finish, a bit hard to follow and make sense of what was going on near the end. I found the ending to be a bit anticlimactic but thats just me. I will be getting book 2 and recommend book 1.

100% engaging and entertaining
Hand on heart I can honestly say I was totally engaged throughout this book and my only disappointment is that the next audiobook in the series is not yet ready to go. Lots of supernaturals, action and intrigue with a bit of romance thrown in - what could be better?

well written fantasy and crime fic
this surprised me by being pretty well written. the bits about the PTSD and trauma were particularly strong and realistic.
some of the supernatural bits were a bit lost on me tbh, vampires are not really my bag, but I went with the flow... it ended differently than I expected... a bit unconventional.. but I liked the main character .. .
Abby Craden did her normal professional job... she still can't do English accents, but that's Abby... this book is deffo a bit different and a worthy listen.

My first foray into this genre
My favourite narrator is Abby Craden - so found this book from doing a search on Abby Craden. To be honest I thought I wouldn’t finish it, but was in it from the get go! Really liked the story, full os twists, turns and surprises, though it got a bit mad as the story continued. I never thought that Fantasy would appeal to me, but I am already looking forward to the second book of this series. However ONLY if Abby Craden narrates it.

Wouldn’t normally be my thing
This wasn’t the type of story I normally go for but I was gripped after the first two chapters.
Exciting and fast paced I thoroughly enjoyed all the way through.

A fantastic story with more than a few surprises!
Blood Rituals is an unexpected delight! Aoibh Woods gives the reader literally everything in this epic tale. What starts out as a fairly standard detective novel morphs into something very different! If you like vampires and the paranormal then you’ll love this. The plot is a bit unstructured and frequently goes off on weird and wonderful tangents, but it all comes together at the end (well sort of) and is so well written you can forgive the author’s indulgence. Brilliant and bonkers in equal measure, I’m hooked and will definitely be reading more of Woods’ work.
Abby Craden’s narration is superb!
