About this listen

We have fought battles that left more than a hundred corpses on the ground and not a word of it has ever been set down. The Order fights, but often it fights in shadow, without glory or reward. We have no banners.

Vaelin Al Sorna is the Sixth Order's newest recruit. Under their brutal training regime, he learns how to forge a blade, survive the wilds, and kill a man quickly and quietly - all in the name of protecting the Realm and the Faith. Now his skills will be put to the test.

War is coming. Vaelin must draw upon the very essence of his strength and cunning if he is to survive the coming conflict. Yet as the world teeters on the edge of chaos, Vaelin will learn that the truth can cut deeper than any sword.

Superb!

This review is for the three Ravens Shadow novels.

I have listened to them now countless times. Each time hearing something new or having the intricacies of the full plot revealed further.

These stories quickly became my favourites.
I hope you enjoy them too.

Gripping

A fantasy journey depicting one man's struggle with life and faith. Keen morales addressed providing food for thought but all that aside.. what a story. Loved it. Will definitely listen to again to make sure none of the nuances escape me.

Brilliant but Narrator could be better

Book sells itself. Very entertaining, really gripping you throughout and makes you want more. I immediately purchased the next book because I wanted to know what happens next!

Narrator could be better. It is very difficult to discern who is speaking, as the narrator makes very little attempt to change his voice for each character. At times I was guessing which person spoke a line but it didn’t ruin the enjoyment, however I feel I could have immersed myself better in the story with just a little more clarity on who was speaking.

Other than that, great story and I throughly enjoyed it.

performer's pauses annoying

performers pauses mid sentence.......were annoying rather than use punctuation as written
I.e 'left and right' not 'left.....and right'

The perfect follow up read to The Name of the Wind

After reading Patrick Rothfuss's masterpiece there was a void in my life. It lay empty for several weeks. Until I stumbled upon this. For those of you that have read TNotW will know that to say this is high praise indeed. It made me forget it.

There are parallels. Gifted boy, travels to many varied and we'll described lands, unrequited love. But Raven's Shadow easily stand alone. Shoulder to shoulder as an engrossing and fascinating epic that submerges you in Vaelin al Sorna's life.

I know a novel is truly great when I pause in my reading to swing an imaginary sword or command an imaginary army. Thank you Anthony Ryan. Well done sir.
