About this listen
A young woman struggling with her Shadow. A bloodthirsty demon fighting for control. Neither prepared to lose against the other.
The country of Midoka embraces magic, also known as the gift. Its most powerful order of sorcerers, the Mist Women, teach novices at the coven in Maishi Hou, and their graduates serve as expert advisors all over the world. Magic is every Midokan’s undeniable birthright.
Except for Yua. An unwilling resident at the Maishi Hou coven, she can’t call forth the smallest flame.
Her only childhood memory is soaked in blood. The only hint as to who—or what—she is lies in her blackened veins.
But they also hide a shadow thirsting for blood, and even the leading Mist Woman fears it.
All her life, Yua has fought her Shadow…until she meets Aza, who says there’s no darkness without light.
Yua is done being scared of herself, but embracing her Shadow could kill everyone. If she tries, she could lose herself forever….
Or she could answer its whispers and become something new.

intrigued
This was an intriguing story with an ending that even I didnt see coming. It was sad, and moving. There was slow burn romance too. I'm interested to see where this series goes.

Brimming with dark magic. Beautifully narrated.
Blood Wisp by Sarina Langer is the first book in the Blood Wisp series. And as I've come to know from all of the author's books, it's a strong, compelling start, dragging you into the pages with the promise of much more to follow.
I have the kindle book, but as soon as the audiobook was released, I knew I just had to listen. Narrated by the wonderful Adriene Arce, who has the most beautiful tone, sweeping the listener willingly into the story with her emotions and defined character voices.
The story follows Yua, a young woman of Midoka, a country that embraces magic. Yua is an unwilling member of the Maishi Hou coven, where the Mist Women teach the novices how to use and hone their gifts. However, Yua has no gift; her only memories are of blood and death. Could her blackened veins and the shadow that dwells within be her gift? Is she willing to give herself over to its power and lust for blood?
Sarina Langer has an exceptional talent for world-building, settings with detailed histories and diverse characters. This book is brimming with dark magic, bubbling over with mystery and intrigue, with just a splattering of love of top, the perfect combination for fans of dark fantasy.
I can't wait to start Blood Song, book 2 in the series.
